BIG circuit full body strength workout

by Heather

I was really excited about all the great feedback from last weeks where’s the muscle post that I thought, I just need to share a new workout with you guys.

And let me tell you, it sure is a doozy. It’s a great one because it’s (hopefully) different, which can offer some variety if you’re in a lifting rut. The rep range also encourages you to lift a little heavier since you’re only doing 12-15 reps here.

I taught this during a strength training class last week where we normally focus on one muscle group for 5-ish minutes, so this circuit style workout was a bit of a change up.

The bursts of cardio will keep your heart rate up throughout the entire workout.  Plus you’re moving from one exercise to the next with no rest in between, which helps keep your heart rate up too, then at the end of the big circuit, adding in a minute of cardio is just a great bonus. Rest + repeat then it’s time to finish with a smaller circuit + another minute of cardio before going into abs.  Heart rate up = a more challenging workout.  Gotta love that!

Did I mention it’s fun?!? It is. 🙂

The BIG circuit name comes from doing 2 exercises for the same muscle group before moving onto the next muscle group. When we get to legs we really increase the reps to pound them out and work them hard.

I’ll definitely be teaching this class again or even doing it on my own at home. It was a good one!

Let me know if you have any questions about the exercises and if you try this one out.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Are you a fan of circuit workouts?

I sure am, but I also love really focusing on 1 muscle group for a long time (like in body pump). I just love it all!

Happy fit day!

I LOVE circuit workouts. So great for the ADD in me. Mine have kind of been the same core moves repeatedly every week though. I might steal some of these to spice things up 🙂

Wow this looks intense! I used to do circuits almost exclusively until just a few weeks ago when I started Live fit. I’m actually not used to working out one body part at a time like LF so it has really been interesting for me! Not sure if I’ll be able to continue with LF as I have a ton of travel coming up. Will borrow some of your moves though for when I’m finished. One question: when you say **repeat- do you mean repeat the last exercise? (not the who circuit right!!? That would be wild!)

Repeat the entire circuit! It’s a doozy of a workout, you’ll have to try it after LF!

People have a tendency of using isolation exercises to much as they can get more out of full body workouts.
