my pregnancy: week 29

by Heather

I woke up with an old kid’s rhyme in my head this morning…

It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man (Jacob) is (still) snoring.

Not sure where that came from…

I’m feeling much better today, thanks for all your well wishes.  I think all the green smoothies and extra rest I got over the last few couple days helped me fight this cold.  A runny nose, sore throat and extreme tiredness is usually about as sick as I get, so it’s not too bad at all.

Onto the pregnancy update!

At 29 weeks Hunter is the size of a butternut squash!

How’s Hunter growing?

Your baby now weighs about 2 ½ pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain.

To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you’ll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby’s hardening skeleton each day.  — from babycenter

What’s crazy to think about is that every week now going forward he’ll be gaining about ½ pound.  Time to fatten him up!  This means my belly is going to be growing like c-r-a-z-y.

How am I feeling?

This past week was probably one of the more tiring weeks, but that’s because I was under the weather a bit.  Still, I can tell my second trimester zest and energy is lacking.  Working a full 8 hours has been rough.  Luckily, I got the okay from my work (after getting something in writing from my midwives of course) to leave a few hours early when I’m feeling extra fatigued.  Going home in the afternoon and just laying down on a couch for a few hours has been glorious.

I have a hard time resting when I know there are things I want to get done, so being able to rest for a while before getting to dinner or teaching has been soooooo nice.

How am I moving?

This week was a bit less active than the ones prior.  Here’s how it went down:

Saturday – walked with Jacob + Joe to get coffee (about 60 minutes)
Sunday – ran 2.3 miles
Monday – 20 minute brisk walk with Joe
Tuesday – 20 minute brisk walk with Joe
Wednesday – 60 minute full body strength training in the AM + taught body pump in the PM
Thursday – rest day (was feeling crummy so I had my cycle class subbed)
Friday – 20 minute brisk walk with Joe AND Jacob (!)

More walking, which I’m loving, but I did miss my extra strength + cycle workout.  Next week I’ll be back at it again + I’m going to try out one or two water aerobics class (one is a pre-natal class).  Today I’m trying on my bikinis to see if any will work, or else  I’ll be on the look out for one to wear.  I’m really looking forward to getting back in the water.  I think the last time I went swimming was when I was very first pregnant.

Belly and Moving

The belly is like whoa!

It’s been fun seeing how my stomach moves from side to side so much.  Sometimes it’s very lopsided depending on where he’s at.  Yesterday we had our 30 week midwife appointment and got to feel his back, which was pressed up against my left side.  The left side was firm and pressed out, while my right side was still squishy.  Then later that night my right side was pressed out.  He’s all over the place!

Contractions

The braxton hicks contractions are fewer and far between.  When I first starting getting them last week they happened a lot.  Now I get about 1-2 a day, at random times.  My midwife thought he might have been doing a lot of turning since he was head up during our 28 week appointment, then head down yesterday at 30 weeks.   He’s getting ready to come out!  Okay, hopefully not yet. 🙂

Random bits

  • How far along: 30 weeks, 3 days
  • Total weight gained: 28 pounds
  • Newest show I’ve started watching during my couch time: grey’s anatomy
  • We went to our first Bradley Method class on Tuesday… more to come after a couple more classes
  • Number of free newborn cloth diapers we already have: 3 (we won one during the cloth diaper class, got one for registering at cotton babies and got another because our Bradley Method class is held at cotton babies)

What’s on your Saturday agenda?

I think our plan is to go pick up our crib + get it all set up!

Looking great, Heather!!! You’re getting closer and closer to meeting your little man.

Side note: we cloth diaper as well (did for both kids), so I’m happy to answer any questions if they come up, but it seems like you’re pretty well informed as it is!!
