my pregnancy: week 38

Another week in this crazy pregnancy journey! Today I am 9 months pregnant, 8 days from my due date (8 DAYS!) and 1 day away from starting my 39th week of pregnancy. All those numbers mean he’ll be here very soon!

For a little while I thought he might come early. Now that I’m so close to my due date and not really feeling much change, I’m beginning to think he’ll be late.

I’ve had braxton hick contractions for months now, and they have definitely been getting stronger this last week, but nothing that feels at all like labor. Sometimes I’ll get a couple uncomfortable ones in a row, but they don’t last. They just get my hopes up! I’m so bad at waiting for the unknown arrival date.

One thing I do know: next week is my last week at work. I’ll probably work up until my due date, which means after today I only have 6 more days of work then a looooonnnnngggg summer vacation with my new little baby. I sure planned his due date well huh? All summer off is going to be pretty sweet.

If he does come late it’ll be nice to have some time at home to just relax and finish up any last minute stuff around the house. Like cleaning and yard work…. that’s seriously all I want to do when I get up in the morning, but then I have to leave and go to work.

So just a little bit more work, but no more teaching now :(. At least not until after Hunter is born. Last night was my final body pump class to teach. I’m glad I got to teach an extra one on Tuesday with our launch for 81 going on. Still, I’m going to miss it for this little while!

I am definitely looking forward to coming back baby bump free. Amping up the weights and challenging my muscles again. Lots of good stuff to look forward to. 🙂

My crazy emotions from last week have definitely calmed down. I’m pretty sure I didn’t cry this week (win!). I’ve had a couple days where I felt super energized, but mostly I feel pretty tired. Sleep has been the worst lately. Instead of waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back to sleep for an hour or so, now I just wake up about every hour again…. to pee. Yup it’s back, but this time with a vengeance. My mind won’t shut down so when I wake up to pee, then I can’t fall back to sleep, then I pee, and the cycle just continues.

I’m definitely hoping it doesn’t continue like that much longer.

Hunter at 38 weeks

Your baby has really plumped up. He weighs about 6.8 pounds and he’s over 19 ½ inches long (like a leek). He has a firm grasp, which you’ll soon be able to test when you hold his hand for the first time! His organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.

Wondering what color your baby’s eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If he’s born with brown eyes, they’ll likely stay brown. If he’s born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time he’s 9 months old. That’s because a child’s irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after he’s born, but they usually won’t get “lighter” or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)  — from babycenter

I’ve been wondering what he’s going to look like lately.  Jacob has blue eyes, I have brown eyes.  My parents are that way and 3 out of 4 of us kids have brown eyes… so there really is a 25% chance like they say that he’ll have blue eyes.  That’s so cool to think about.

Exercise has been great again.  Love that I can still stay active!

Saturday – 60 minutes of walk
Sunday – 25 minutes of walk
Monday – 40 minutes of walking
Tuesday – 40 minute of walking + taught 60 minute body pump launch class
Wednesday -40 minutes of walking + taught 60 minute body pump launch class
Thursday – will walk at least 40 minutes, but probably an hour
Friday – will walk at least 15 minutes + go to morning strength workout

No water aerobics this week.  Normally I go on Tuesdays, but since I was teaching later that night I decided against a double workout.  Next week I should make it there twice again.

Like I said before, last night was my last body pump class to teach.  I was totally hoping my water would break during class, but alas it did not.  Now until Hunter is born I’ll just be a participant in classes.  You know I’ve gotta get my workout on!

  • How far along: 38 weeks, 7 days
  • Total weight gained: 44 pounds (up 3 from last week)
  • Number of stretch marks:  still zero!
  • Favorite foods this week: fresh fruits, veggies and smoothies – the warmer weather definitely makes me crave produce
  • Awesomely sweet friend: Erica @ Itzy’s Kitchen – she sent me a box of tasty 10 grain chocolate chip cookies and old body pump releases… so when I come back to teaching after baby I’ll have some awesome new material!  Thank you my friend!

How’s your week been?  Do you think Hunter will be early or late?

I can’t believe you’re only 8 days away from your due date! I’m super excited for you and wish you the best of luck!!

I’ve had a feeling since the beginning that I’m going to go past my due date so maybe the opposite will happen to me!

From early on I had a feeling he was going to be late too… I think lately I just had wishful hoping he’d come early. It’ll be fun to see when your little guy shows up too!
