So much has been changing with Hunter these past couple weeks. And yup, I’m talking about in the sleep department! It all started on a Friday night when he was 10 weeks, 5 days old.
We went to bed, nothing out of the ordinary. Then around 2am I woke up, but Hunter didn’t. I checked on him to make sure everything was okay and went back to bed. Again, I woke up at 4am. Hunter was still just fine sleeping away. It wasn’t until 5am that he woke to eat! He went a good 7.5 hours between feedings that night. The next night was 8 hours.
Somehow it just clicked and throughout the week he’d go 7-8 hours between feedings. We did have a couple random nights when he woke up between 2-3am, and I thought that he might be reverting back, but that didn’t stick (luckily!).
Then once he hit 12 weeks, something else happened. His nighttime sleep began extending to 9-10 hours between feedings, with the occasional 8 hour night. At the same time he instantly became a better day time napper. It seems like every other day he takes a loooonnnnggg nap. Like 2-3 hours and at least one. sometimes two of them. Most naps are little cat naps lasting 45 minutes though.
Something else exciting – he’s beginning to fall asleep on his own without me doing anything. AND we’ve stopped using the swing to lull him into a deep sleep. He’s totally entranced by the swing and sleeps so well in it, but with a mini vacation in the near future I wanted to make sure he could sleep well without it. No way are we bringing that along with us.
Our feedings have magically turned into a 3-4 hour combined schedule, which means now he’s eating only 5, maybe 6 times a day. His wake/play time lasts anywhere (happily) between 1-2 hours.
I think part of the reason he’s become a much better day time napper is all the extra activity and moving around he does. He’ll play on his mat…
and loves his jumperoo!
In addition to all the other interactive activities we do each day.
He wakes up super happy and goofy first thing in the morning, and is pretty happy all day too. All the extra play and sleep sure is good for him!
I have to say, Baby Wise totally worked for us. I didn’t think he’d begin to sleep through the night for a long time, but just like the book said, he did at 10 weeks. I know the 3 hour eat-play-sleep schedule isn’t right for everyone, but it totally worked for us.
If I compare those first few weeks, to 6 weeks and even to now there’s been a continuous improvement. Not that it hasn’t taken work to get him where he is now, but the work was so worth it. I’ve got a happily sleeping baby (at this moment too in fact!), which means a happy mama too.
In other exciting news, Hunter’s going to have another cousin come March! Our family just keeps growing. There are going to be so many babies and kids in the near future. I can’t wait!
I taught bootcamp this morning and am about to work on the backyard for a bit until either Hunter wakes or I fill the yard debris bin. Hope your weekend is going well!
Do you have a big or small family (immediate or extended)? Anything fun going on this weekend?

So great to hear the good news of Hunter getting extra sleep. We did not do baby wise, but Ruby began sleeping the the nIght around the 9 week mark, and I have heard that is fairly common. I think it has something to do with body weight, and I bet you are right that the extra activity during the day that he is now able to do hel

Josiah’s side added 5 kids in less than 4 year between him and his 2 siblings. Sure makes holidays fun!
I remember hearing something about body weight too now that you mention it. Lots of kids are so fun 🙂
