Last week I picked up a 7 day pass to 24 Hour Fitness. My friend started going to the one near my work and even though I knew I didn’t want to join the gym, I really wanted to go to the spin class she told me about.
I’ve been part of 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness before. Both never lasting very long. I get pumped in the beginning, it last for 3, 4 maybe even 6 months, then it just becomes inconvenient for me.
The one part I do always miss are the group fitness classes. I took spin and bootcamp during my 7 days. I had big plans to go to as many classes as I could and I made it there twice.
Inconvenient for me? Yes. I’ll stick to my home gym thank.you.very.much.
Top 10 Reasons I love my Home Gym
1. Flexibility
I love that I can choose when I want to work out, and how easy it is for me to adjust my schedule if I need to. Big name gyms wouldn’t change there schedule for me like my home gym does.
2. Comfort
Do they let you do yoga in your PJs at the gym? Didn’t think so. My home gym lets me do whatever I want in whatever I want.
3. Personal rocker room
According to https://gymequipmentupholstery.co.uk/ I don’t have to share a locker room or shower/sink area with strangers. First off I have all my clothes here, so packing my bag in the morning or night isn’t an issue (which saves me time!). Secondly I know no other naked person has been sitting on a chair in my house… couldn’t say that about a locker room.
4. Saves me time
The time it takes me to get it my gym is about 5 seconds… just a few steps down the stairs. If I was going to a gym that would be at least 10-15 minutes each way. Plus like I said before, I don’t have to waste time packing up a gym bag.
5. Exercise DVDs
Yes, I do love group fitness classes. It’s fun to not have to think about the next move sometimes, plus workout out with others is a blast. What do I do at home when I don’t want to think? Pop in an exercise DVD. I have a boat load of DVDs to choose from, so variety isn’t really an issue (although I could use more yoga DVDs….). Sometimes it’s nice to just do what you’re told. Unless you’re a control freak, then DVDs may not be for you
6. No excuses
I’m sure I could make excuses about why not to exercise at home, but why do that if it’s not really necessary? Time? That’s not an excuse because it takes me 5 seconds to get to my gym. Plus there are so many home workouts I can do in 20 minutes, or even just 10 minutes. Heck I could break my workout into 5 minute increments in the AM, at lunch then after dinner. There’s 15 minutes for the day that didn’t seem like a hassle one bit.
7. I can sweat all I want
Do you ever get embarrassed by your sweat? When I exercise very intensely I sweat… well intensely. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just how it goes. At home I can sweat like a fire hydrant if I want and not worry about it dripping on someone’s treadmill.
8. Having exercise equipment is cool
I love having our own home gym. It doesn’t have as much equipment as I’d love, but it works really well for what we want to accomplish. I don’t need a spin bike or treadmill, I can run outside. I have All Vibration Plates and it’s enough for me. Would I be pissed if someone gave me one? Course not – So why is exercise equipment cool? Well I can bust out a pull up whenever I want. Just having the option to do whatever exercise I desire is cool.
9. I avoid other’s sweat
So at home I can sweat all I want, but I also stay clear of other’s sweat. Last night at bootcamp everyone got pretty sweaty. I was a tad grossed out that I had to put my hands on the ground where I could see sweat… and I knew it wasn’t mine. Ewww I should go wash my hands again.
10. Saves me money
This is the big one. Gyms are expensive, especially if the commitment to go to the gym isn’t there. It’s like throwing money away and I am not all about that. I don’t just try to save money with my budget friendly meals, I also try to save money at home where ever I can. I’m becoming a big budget lady, so throwing it away with a gym membership would just not fit into that plan. Plus if I were to invested that money I’d be spending at the gym monthly into new equipment I’d have an even cooler home gym – spin bike included.
Do you work out at home or a gym? Maybe a combo of both? Share why you love it!

I gym in walking distance! I have to get in the car and drive to get to any. I still find, after 5 years, that exercise is not fun for me. I do some because I must. Most days I don’t. I do Curves when I can but as I said it is a drive and winter weather can curtail the session. Sometimes when I see the comments I envy you who love it. I don’t even like walking.
Now I am also planning to have my own small gym at home.
I love my home gym too! The best thing I love about it is my workout video collection. I have DVD’s from Jillian Michaels, Shaun T, Bob Harper, Leslie Sansone, Richard Simmons and more. I have yoga DVDs, pilates DVDs, cardio DVDs, boxing DVDs and so on. It’s kind of like being in my own personal fitness class that I can attend any time I want. I love it! Plus, I don’t have to spend time, money or energy going to the gym.
I love workoing out from home as well! Have you heard of BodyRock.tv? I LOVE it.
I agree, home gyms are awesome!! Nick and I have some great equipment right now, but this year we are going tot urn our guest room into an actual workout room, rather than having half of our equipment upstairs and half downstairs. I can’t wait! I love that I don’t really have to talk myself into working out, because my gym is right at my finger tips 🙂
HAve a Merry Christmas!
Our gym was split into upstairs and downstairs before too. You’ll love having it all in one place!
I love all of those reasons, espically the ” No Execuse ” one. My hubby always had some kind of an execuse of why he can’t make it to the gym today or this week ( he’s always busy with work so I don’t blame him if he wants to relax).
I really envy your dedication to workout! You should start your own gym.
Have a wonderful week and Merry Christmas.
Your so sweet Faith! There are times when I just want to relax too, so I usually count those as my rest day – about 1-2 a week.
I agree with all of the above! I do miss group classes, and even though I don’t think I would make it to the gym more than 2x a week since we have a home gym, I still want a membership! A new Y is opening up down the road and my husband’s company pays for a gym membership for him, so it’s only an added $5/month to add me. I think I’ll do it! I love spinning, step, and strength training and those are things I never do at home. 🙂
Wow $5 a month – I’d sign up right away too!
