I’ve briefly mentioned about making homemade dog food. Well now I’d like to share it will all of you.
This guy is spoiled.
He also has a sensitive stomach and likes to puke when he eats either something he shouldn’t. And he likes to eat things he shouldn’t often.
I finally decided to try the recipe I got from the vet for ‘easy to digest dog food’.
It’s actually filled with foods I would eat. High in protein, whole grains and healthy fats… with a bit of sugar to sweeten it up for him too.
We’re feeding him half homemade food and half dry dog food. The vet told me that if he switched just to homemade dog food then he’ll need a daily multi-vitamin. I didn’t want to do that so I stuck with half homemade.
Easy to digest homemade dog food
Makes about 4 cups worthIngredients
- 1/2 cup cream of wheat (uncooked)
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 hardboiled egg,diced
- 1 1/2 cups cottage cheese
- 3 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
Directions
- Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil with 1/8 tsp salt added in. Whisk in the cream of wheat and boil until thickened. Allow to cool.
- In a large bowl mix together the cooked cream of wheat, diced hardboiled egg, cottage cheese, sugar and oil.
- Keep sealed in the fridge for 1 week.
Serving suggestion: same volume as you fed your dog before in dog food… Joe gets 1 cup of food 3x a day. So he gets 1/2 cup of homemade dog food with 1/2 cup dry dog food at each meal.
Tip: I make a double batch to last Joe the entire week. Keeps great in the fridge!
This dog food has been Joe approved.
Have you ever made homemade dog food?
Joe is kinda spoiled huh?

Oh my gosh! This is rad. We actually ran out of dog food last night and had no time to get to the store, this recipe would have been awesome this morning. I am bookmarking it for future use!

That is SOOOOO COOOOOOOOLLLL!!! I never thought you could make your own dog food. 🙂
I make Frank rice and turkey now, but this would be such a fun switch up! I love that it has cream of wheat in it. How cool. Have a great weekend
