We’ve made it to Wednesday! Boy am I glad. Week 10 has left me feeling sleeeeepy.
How’s baby growing?
Last week we were at a grape, now we’re onto a prune! This little guy or girl is actually looking like a human, it’s crazy.
Though he’s barely the size of a kumquat or prune — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.
He’s swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they’ll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.
If you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
In other developments: Your baby’s limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby’s forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he’s about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches. –from babycenter
Is it weird that after I take the photo I then proceed to munch on the fruit? The grape was sour last week, the prune was delicious. A little weird?
Moving on….
How I’m feeling
Like I said above, very sleeeepy. I need much more sleep now than I used to. Pre-pregnancy I felt good on 6.5-7.5 hours, now I’m loving and needing 9-10. I even look sleepy in my picture, and that was after a good 10 hours of weekend sleep.
Since I’m now waking up 2-3 times each night to pee I’ve also been dreaming. I used to never ever ever dream. Jacob would always wake up with crazy dreams to tell me about, and I’d have nothing. Now since I wake up mid dream a lot I remember them. Dreams are awesome and so strange.
I think my nausea is getting better. At least over the weekend it’s not really there, then I go to work Monday-Friday and feel nauseous. Very strange. I have to thank Halloween for a treat that seems to be helping… jolly ranchers! I happily dipped into the bowl at work when I saw them and they’ve been helping ever since. Plus they’re tasty and take a long time to eat.
Emotions have been on over drive. Poor Jacob has to deal with his crazy pregnant wife crying over nothing. I was really worried over the weekend because Saturday I just felt good, normal and not nauseous. I started to think something was wrong and what if I wasn’t pregnant anymore?! Then he pointed out my crazy lady emotions I was having which comforted me. Even though the nausea is no fun, it’s kind of a comforting thing.
Body changes
Week 10 marked my first maternity shirt! Jacob’s mom picked a couple up for me and I tried one out on Sunday. I love the long length. There’s definitely room for a belly to grow into it. I must suck in unintentionally during the photos, because this is really what my tummy looks like all the time.
That wasn’t even end of the day bloat!
Another body change as of recent is not a favorite of mine… arm + back acne. I’ve always had ache and didn’t know which way it would go once I had many more hormones running around in me. My face, surprising has less ache, but shoulders, upper arms and back… well they just won’t go away! It really only bothers me a little, and when I workout. I like to workout and teach in sleeveless tops (like in the photo), but it’s kinda embarrassing to me.
Hopefully this stage doesn’t last too long!
What I’m eating
I shared a lot about what I’m eating now on Monday, and it still mostly holds true. I’m LOVING cucumbers and now also kiwis. They’re sweet and delicious and I just can’t get enough.
Since I started sucking on jolly ranchers my nausea has gotten better. The only down side to them is they give me gas… TMI? Ehh, it’s okay. Gas is so fun, but not as bad (for me) as nausea.
How I’m moving
My workouts are pretty similar to what they’ve been the whole time. I do full body strength training twice a week + practicing for the body pump launch. I teach cycle + sports training, so those 2 cardio workouts each week. I walk every day for at least 15 minutes, to an hour on the weekend, and run once a week.
This week’s run was on Monday during my lunch break. I fit in a glorious 4 miles at a surprising 8:45 pace. It felt so good to get out and run after almost a week off.
Fun stuff
Over the weekend Jacob and I stopped in at a very cute, and very expensive baby store. We learned a bit about cloth diapers and found out that they offer a free class on everything you need to know on cloth diapering. We’ll definitely be going to that in the near future to learn more.
I almost picked up a couple baby outfits but resisted. Once we know the sex there will be no stopping me! At least until Jacob reminds me we have a budget 😉
