This weekend I’m taking a couple rest days from exercise (I did teach an extra body pump class last night, so I definitely need it)… only to get a whole new kind of workout in!
Looks like a whole lotta work in the jeep. Do you have a guess to what it is?
It all started with this little turd.
He has basically destroyed our carpets, leaving tons of ripped up seams showing. The dog’s puke doesn’t help it look any better.
Jacob decided to check and see if the house (built in 1913) really did have original hardwood floor. And he found them!
We were pretty dang excited since having hard wood floors upstairs has been on our wish list.
The carpet started coming up, and more hardwood was revealed. Finishing them ourselves would definitely be a big job, but doing the work yourself is such a $$ saver.
But then we started running into problems.
The more and more carpet that came up, more and more pieces of hardwood were missing. And that’s just in the office. Jacob checked out a couple different areas (in front of the stairs and in front of the bathroom). One area has a huge piece of plywood and the other has laminate under the carpet (likely where the old kitchen used to be before the addition).
So we had to go with plan B. Carpet had already been lifted and luckily we had the $$ in savings for our project. So that’s why we have a huge pile of this in our living room.
And it also explains the extreme mess. Promise we don’t always live like that!
The first few pieces have already been laid by my amazing husband, but the remaining upstairs gets tackled today/tomorrow!
All the rooms to be finished: office, living room, hall way, dining room and kitchen. Luckily our house isn’t huge and the upstairs (excluding the bathroom) is just around 700 square feet.
This guy is going to be no help.
And neither is Joe.
Wish us luck as we tackle this home improvement with absolutely no experience doing it. Should be fun. 🙂
More updates to come. And hopefully not from my iPhone like this one since my computer should be up and running again once the office is done!

I understand completely. We re-did all the floors in our house when we bought it because the carpets were ruined. I bought beautiful carpets from Pottery Barn, then my dog got really sick and well I won’t tell you what happened, but I forgive her, she had cancer and past away (RIP), but needless to say, we didn’t have any carpets. We got two new dogs and trying to teach the boy to potty train took 2 years and he ruined the floor in the front room from pee and now it has to be re done again! sigh… The house will never be done!!
Animals! You love em, but they sure aren’t good for carpets.
how awesome! my husband and i love hardwood floors too… we hope to have them someday! 😉 good luck and have fun!
Thanks Ashley, it’s been a lotta work but fun too 🙂
Gooooooood luck! I’m sure it will look awesome
We are doing laminate floors at my Mom’s right now, well my husband is. It is his first time and there has been a few surprises for sure! Going on day 6 today, and almost done the 900 sq ft!
Wow 6 days! I hope ours doesn’t take that long…. We shall see, it’s a smaller space. Way to go for your hubby just doing it!
