Here is a look at everything my 3 kids ate and drank in a day. Hunter is 5 1/2 years old, Zoe is almost 4 years old, and Nova is almost 2 years old.
I haven’t shared a full day of eating in quite some time now! I always love seeing what other parents feed their kiddos for some fresh inspiration and ideas. It’s also neat to see how much volume kids eat, since it varies soooo much.
This day was just a random Wednesday I decided to snap pictures of and document. In no way do our meals look like this every day. We like to change it up and vary as much as possible! I didn’t track water intake, but all throughout the day they drink water from water bottles (these ones) and I always offer a cup of water at every meal as well. Water is our favorite!
Everything My Kids Ate and Drank in a Day
Breakfast: banana custard oatmeal
Hunter: He ate a full bowl with natural peanut butter, homemade blackberry plum jam and unsweetened shredded coconut flakes
Zoe: She ate 1/2 a bowl with natural peanut butter and unsweetened shredded coconut flakes
Nova: She ate 1/2 a bowl with natural peanut butter and unsweetened shredded coconut flakes
Morning snack: peanut butter cookie larabars on the way out the door + the girls grabbed (free!) bananas at Fred Meyer
Hunter: He ate 1 peanut butter cookie larabar
Zoe: She ate 1 peanut butter cookie larabar + 1.5 bananas
Nova: She ate 3/4 of a peanut butter cookie larabar + 1/2 a banana
Lunch: sardine sandwiches (2/3 a tin of sardines mixed with homemade mayo on 2 thin sliced dave’s killer bread slices for each sandwich) + cucumber sticks, grape tomatoes and apple slices
I always pack their lunches to go on Wednesdays as they typically eat in the car on the drive home from swim lessons, which happens over the lunch hour.
Hunter: His lunch is pictured above, and he ate everything except 1 bite of sandwich. When we got home he grabbed raw almonds and ate about 6-8 of them.
Zoe: She ate everything, which included a full sardine sandwich, the same amount of tomatoes pictured above, and half the amount of cucumbers and apples in the picture above.
Nova: She ate everything except for a few cucumber bites. Her container had about 2/3 of a full sandwich packed, and about half the amount of fruit and veggies as what is pictured above. She ate during the big kid’s swim lessons, and on the drive home as well. So her lunch spanned for about 1 hour of eating time split up.
The containers I use are LunchBots and I love em! I have a large open container (this size but without the dividers), a small open container and a small trio divided container + 3 condiment containers. I just put a rubber band around them for transport so I don’t have to worry about the lid falling off if it doesn’t stay level in a bag.
Afternoon snack: ½ cup plain whole milk yogurt + ½ cup diced strawberries + honey lemon water (not very sweet at all, mostly a tart lemon flavor)
The afternoon was amazingly sunny and warm for a February day. The big kids played outside in the dirt pile for 3+ hours and came in hungry, thirsty and dirty!
Hunter: He ate and drank everything
Zoe: She ate and drank everything
Nova: She ate everything except a few strawberry pieces and only took a few dips of her honey lemon water
Dinner: crockpot chicken thigh and vegetable soup made creamy with coconut milk + cheddar spinach drop biscuits (YUM!)
Hunter: He ate 1.5 bowls of soup + 4 biscuits
Zoe: She ate 1/2 a bowl of soup + 2.5 biscuits
Nova: She ate 1/4 a bowl of soup + 1.5 biscuits
And that’s it! As you can probably see, Hunter is our BIG eater. Zoe typically has 1 big main meal, then smaller meals throughout the day. Nova goes between eating everything in sight, and picking at her foods at this age.
Do you find your kiddos pick one meal as their big meal, or that they eat pretty consistently throughout the day? What is one of your favorite go to lunches for on the go for your kids?
