I’m not one for new years resolutions. I’m really not big into monthly goals, although sometimes I do find them really helpful.

I’m big into just doing something when I want to. I don’t need to wait for a certain day to start it up.

the new year

on Monday

tomorrow

I make a  list, check it twice and get to business! Since I want to up fruits/veggies and down sugary chocolate treats I’m doing it.  Just gunna do it.

It starts with a little prepping, and this week I decided to make things in bulk. I didn’t just make 1 sandwich for Jacob this week, I made 4. I didn’t just cut up 1 cucumber for myself, I diced up 4, 1 for each day this week.

And I didn’t make just 1 smoothie, again I made 4! Shake or stir, then slip and slurp. While these smoothies won’t be super fluffy without fresh ice blended in them, they’ve got everything I’m looking for.

Fruit, veggies, a bit of protein and fat.

Ready and made to grab and go.

Green Smoothie For The Week
makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups packed spinach
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 2 cups frozen bananas
  • 1/2 cup plain protein powder
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter
  • 2 cups soymilk
  • 2 cups water

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a large, high speed blender. Blend until everything is combined and fluffy. Go for a full 2 minutes to really break those greens down. Pour into jars, mugs or glasses with lids.
  2. Keep refrigerated until it’s time to drink. Shake and sip. Remember your straw!

Greens make me feel great!  They’re so energizing, it’s pretty amazing.

This smoothie looks delicious! So do you just keep them in the fridge until you drink them? Does the consistency stay the same?

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

Yup I keep them in the fridge, then when it’s time to try I shake it a ton and drink. It separates a bit, but other than that it stays the same. Not super fluffy since it doesn’t have freshly blended ice in it. I guess it’s a mix between smoothie and juice. Make sense?

Look lovely, thanks. I’m just cathcing up on this week’s blogs. I also like your nut butter recipes, I’ve printed a few out and am gonna have a bit of a Sunday cook fest tomorrow for the week ahead!
Just also, i love your smoothie “jars”, are they just re-used standard jars or did you buy them specially? I like them, there a bit retro looking 🙂

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

Yup just old re-used mason jars!

We just started doing green smoothies again. My almost 4 year old is long them and I feel like finally he is getting veggies in. He will eat fruit, but not veggies, so now I know he has a healthy breakfast before heading off to preschool. Plus hopefully me and my husband will get a little healthier and lose weight too.

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

Wonderful! I’m hoping I get my little one to love green smoothies when he/she can start eating solids. They don’t even know they like veggies in there 🙂

The smoothies look wonderful! I need to start getting back into smoothies! There so easy and healthy, I love them! Thanks for the recipe!

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

So simple, especially when they’re waiting for you in your fridge.

I am SO like you! When I want to start something I do it right away! I learned long ago that ‘waiting for Monday’ never works. Seize the moment!

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

YES Seize the moment!! Glad to have you back around girlie 🙂

  6. Kathleen says:

Do you like that brown rice protein powder? I’ve wanted to try it and wondered what you thought of it.

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

I’ve only tried it in my smoothies so far, so in there yes. I like that it doesn’t have any stevia which I find WAY to over powering in protein powders. I’m going to try adding it to my oats soon and see how it turns out. I’m a fan of sun warrior brown rice protein, but the annoying thing is you have to order it online where I was able to pick that brown rice protein powder up at Fred Meyer. Normally I go with hemp protein powder, but it’s definitely a strong and acquired taste 🙂 Do you have one you really like?

      1. Kathleen says:

I’ve tried a vanilla soy protein powder which was pretty good; but I just don’t want to eat all soy. I also have to watch for dairy (I have an allergy to dairy in a way), so I have to check the label really carefully. The soy protein powder I was using was really good, but then at a second look at the ingredients, I found out that there was milk in it: not listed on the label, but as part of the “natural flavors,” with “contains milk” under the label. So I can’t go back to it. I’ve heard of the hemp and sun warrior’s brown rice protein powders. Is there one you would suggest?

        1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

Sun warrior for sure, they have a natural flavor which I like and vanilla too, and the hemp I like… Ummm can’t remember the brand but I get the plain which is just hemp, that’s all. Nothing added and organic. It turns whatever you put it in green, so be warned!
