meal plan for the week: July 23-29

by Heather

Today did not turn into my grocery shopping day.  However, I did meal plan for the week! I’ll actually have more free time during the day tomorrow to grocery shop + my csa is delivered on Tuesdays so it kinda makes sense to wait and see what I get from them before shopping.

Anyways, here’s the plan!

Some notes

  • My mom always does Monday night spaghetti night. I think I’m really going to adopt that idea, but make it more of a Monday night pasta night. This week though, spaghetti!
  • The quiche will be similar to this one – same crust, just a little different filling.
  • I haven’t decided on an exact potato dish to go with the pork, but russet potatoes are a steal this week at the store so I’m going to stock up on a 15lb bag. Suggestions are welcome!
  • I’ll have to save some pork from Wednesday’s meal for Friday’s pizza.
  • I didn’t plan anything for Sunday mainly because we’ll either end up getting together with someone for a meal, or we’ll eat left overs one night instead of me cooking. With one meal not planned out it leaves me a little more flexibility which I definitely like.

Grocery list *

  • potatoes
  • pineapple
  • onion
  • whole wheat bread
  • deli lunch meat – turkey is on sale
  • pears, peaches and/or nectarines **
  • half and half **

* This does not include all the ingredients for all the meals.  It is just what I need based on what I have on hand already

** Not needed for a specific meal.

What are you making this week?  Please share your favorite potato recipe!

Good stuff! I actually really like meal planning- we have some fun items on the upcoming menu including my wonton lasagna (http://www.itzyskitchen.com/2011/03/e-artichoke-spinach-pesto-wonton.html) and a second attempt at homemade pad thai (the first tasted good…but needed more heat)

I definitely could use a good grocery challenge. RIght now, I’m trying to keep it all under $100 a week. It’s tough but I’m doing well so far.

LOVE meal planning! I was going to go shopping today as well but had the same thought as you (waiting to get my CSA share on Tuesday) and pushed it off until tomorrow-funny! Sounds like you have some great meals planned 🙂

I should try out this budget thing. I always plan to and never do though. As for your potatoes, you should cut them up (peeled or un peeled) and toss them with some pesto and bake at 350 until they are fork tender. I did this the other night and my husband said they were the best potato dish I have made. (I can’t claim the idea, it was on pinterest….) 🙂 So that being said I can also tell you with out feeling puffed up that “THEY WERE AWESOME!”

I need to get better about meal planning again. With the heat, I’ve let it slide and we just resort to lots of salads, sandwiches, breakfast foods, etc. I guess it’s just prepping me for when we won’t have time to cook when the baby is first here lol

Love this! I think you can totally do it with 200$ /month!

I like to eat pizza 1x/2 weeks (homemade) and we do a lot of mexican style dishes. We’re all about lots of salads around here too! 🙂
