2nd pregnancy: FAQ

by Heather

Good morning!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  If you saw Hunter’s message over the weekend, this post isn’t a surprise to you.  If you missed it, here it is again…

Yup, we’re having another baby!  And we couldn’t be happier about it.  I thought I’d do a FAQ about this one since it was kept on the DL a bit longer than when I was pregnant with Hunter.

How far long are you?

I will be 12 weeks on Tuesday.

When are you due?

February 18, 2014 (based on my last menstrual period).

When did you find out?

On father’s day! Sunday, June 16th.

Did you know you were pregnant before you found out?

I did think I was based on being more tired over the weekend at the lake house, being disgusted by the smell of raw meat and being a few days late with my period.  That’s why I went and got a pregnancy test right when we got back home!

How long did it take to get pregnant?

Just 1 month.  I got my first period back in April, then got pregnant right after that.

Do you want a boy or girl?

Honestly, I’ll be happy with a boy or girl.  I know boys are a blast because Hunter is a blast, but at some point I do want a girl too.  But we’re planning to have more than 2 so hopefully one of our kids will be a girl!

How close in age will Hunter be with his brother/sister?

Just under 21 months.

Have you seen a doctor/midwife?  How did it go?

We saw our midwife on Friday!  It went so well.  It was like going back to see family — they are so warm and welcoming.  Plus they were very excited to see Hunter again!

We got to listen to our baby’s heartbeat for the first time.  It’s so amazing and definitely made it much more real for Jacob.  I think we were both prepared to not hear it (like our scare last time), but thankfully we were able to.  I also really did want us to hear the heartbeat, which is why I was fine waiting until 11 ½ weeks, instead of going in at 10 weeks for our first appointment like we did with Hunter.

Has your exercise changed?

Not really much.  I’m still teaching my 7-10 classes a week + going on walks in the evening.  Exercise actually has kept me feeling pretty good and helps with nausea!  The only thing I’ve done is taken the intensity down a bit.  I automatically took 5lb off my squat weight in body pump since it was a challenge.  During more cardio interval based classes I just try to keep my intensity to moderate.  I can always talk during my classes and I’m not gasping for air ever.  I need to start wearing my heart rate monitor again to just get a ball park of where I’m at with that too.

10 weeks along

How has this pregnancy felt?

Definitely different in term of being super relaxed about it.  It’s like I almost forget about being pregnant sometimes, probably because my time is filled with being with Hunter.  I know what to expect this time around, so the question of the unknown isn’t out there.

As far as how I’ve physically felt, it’s much the same as it was with Hunter.  I’ve been blessed with easy pregnancies so far.  I’m more tired and went through a bit of nausea for about 1 month, but it’s mostly done.  Thankfully no throwing up again!  I had one super nauseous bad feeling day last Thursday, but since then I’ve actually felt much more back to normal.  I can tell I’m on my way to my second trimester!

Are you going to do weekly updates again with this pregnancy?

I don’t think I’ll do them weekly.  Like I said before, it’s just much more relaxed.  I’ve been bad about taking weekly pictures of myself.  I think I’ll do monthly updates instead and then throw in other pregnancy related posts as they come up.  I am excited to do side by side comparisons of this pregnancy compared to my last one though.

That’s all I can think of right now!  Let me know if you have any other questions.  We’re very excited about baby #2. 🙂

If you’ve been pregnant more than once, how did the 2nd time feel to you?

Congrats! I followed your pregnancy with Hunter, so I’m excited to see how everything goes with baby #2! I gave birth to my 1st in June and hope to do similar spacing.

Congrats to you! Hope you’ve been having a fun summer with your little one 🙂 I think just under 2 years is going to be a good amount of time. Hunter has a cousin who is 2 year older than him and they have lots of fun together.

So excited for you! Can’t believe it only took one month to get pregnant again – that’s awesome. Question if you don’t mind me asking… How long did it take for your period to come back after you weaned Hunter? Or did you get it before you weaned him entirely?

Don’t mind at all! I got my first period back around 11 1/2 months, and at that time Hunter was down to nursing once or twice a day. We weaned completely a couple weeks after 1 year.

So exciting! My 2nd pregnancy was way worse than my first! With my daughter I was nauseous but never threw up and with my son I was throwing up until 20 weeks! I will say that my labor with my second was way easier! Don’t you love feeling so much less stress this time? I feel much more relaxed and able to enjoy more with my second!

Yes I sure do! Soooo much more relaxed. I’m looking forward to an easier (and hopefully faster!) labor. That’s something I hadn’t really thought about yet.

Congratulations! That is so exciting and you look great! Glad to hear you’re feeling good too! Staying active and maintaining my fitness through my first helped me feel so much better too. If I didn’t workout first thing, I felt nauseous, tired and yucky all day for the first few months. Blah! Hope you continue feeling great and looking forward to seeing your updates!

Yes I agree! Even when I feel nauseous in the morning, once I exercise it’s pretty much gone for the day.

So exciting! I love that Hunter and the baby will be so close in age- so much fun! And virtual high five for keeping that exercise regimen up! 7-10 classes per week is crazy when you aren’t pregnant! Nice job. Except now you’re making me feel bad about my own current exercise schedule.

Haha if it wasn’t my job I highly doubt if
I’d be taking that many classes! It forces me to keep going which is a good thing.

Totally missed it! CONGRATS!! That’s great! Everyone always states the second baby is so much easier since you know what happened with the first!

I came across your blog on Pinterest. I’m due February 17, 2014. I thought it was ironic. This is also my 2nd but it has bed much worse than my pregnancy with my daughter. She’s 22 months old and will be 2 in October. I’m so excited for her to have a younger sibling 🙂 good luck in the 2nd trimester and beyond!
