Yesterday I had a midwife appointment, so I figured now would be a good time for an update!

As of today I am 26 weeks, 3 days pregnant.  It’s crazy to think in just 11 days I’ll be into my 3rd trimester.  Then the countdown begins.  Maybe I should begin thinking more about getting ready for baby…. maybe. 😉

So yesterday’s appointment was with a new midwife group.  The change was definitely not because we wanted one.  We loved our first midwife group (Pacific Midwifery), but because of insurance changes, we can no longer deliver at the hospital they deliver at.  Boo.  There’s another hospital in Vancouver, so we’ll be at that one with a different, larger group (Vancouver Clinic), which happened to be the only other midwife group in Vancouver that was in network.  All of this was a major bummer to us, but having a baby at a hospital out of network is just too expensive.

I knew it wouldn’t feel the same as our first midwife group, and it didn’t.  It felt more doctorly, instead of warm and inviting.  But like I was telling Jacob yesterday, as long as I have him there, that’s what matters.  He was such an awesome coach and support during Hunter’s birth (read it here, here and here).  My plan is to meet all of the 7 midwifes so that we don’t end up with a stranger in the delivery room, because whoever is on call delivers the baby.  Thankfully I’ve done this once before, so I’m much more relaxed about everything and can just roll with it.

Yesterday I got to heart our little girl’s heartbeat, which is always wonderful.  I had my belly measured for the first time (my last appointment was at 19 weeks and they don’t measure until 20), and it was on the smaller end.  At 26 weeks it measured 24 cm, but I remember measuring smaller from time to time with Hunter too, so it’s not really a surprise.  As long as she’s growing, that’s what matters. Also, so far I’ve gained 14 pounds total, which looks like 1 pound a week from my last update at 22 weeks.  Slow and steady this time around.

On Tuesday I go in for my 2.5 hour glucose test to check for gestational diabetes.  Good times ahead. 🙂

I haven’t been having any back pain or discomfort these past couple weeks, which has been such a relief!  I’ve definitely been taking it easier on the exercise front.  No more teaching 3 classes in one day (two is my max), I’ve gone a lot lighter on my weights, and have just taken the intensity down a notch.  I’m hoping that by going much easier I can continue as many or all of my classes until the end.   The only real extra exercise I do are walks a couple times a week with my little family.

I haven’t really had any cravings or aversions lately.  I mean, I love my sweets, so that’s still been happening, but I mostly just eat when I’m hungry.  I do find I’m less into snacking in the afternoon, which is pretty odd.  Normally when 3pm hits I’d go for a big snack, but I just haven’t been into it.  When dinner comes around though, I’m a hungry beast.

Regular clothes are definitely getting tight.  For bottoms I mostly wear leggings, workout pants or maternity jeans.  Tops so far are mostly regular shirts that have room for the belly, but I do have a lot of shirts that are just too short and tight now.  My long white tank top gets a ton of use to make sure everything is covered up.  I love fall since leggings, boots, scarves and long shirts/sweaters are in now.  Plus they are so comfy!

I feel baby kicks and movements all the time.  As I’m sitting here typing she’s moving around.  Usually when I calm down for the day and relax she moves the most.  I love having Jacob feel her move too.  Sometimes when I’m sitting on the couch reading a book to Hunter, and he’s resting on my belly she’ll be kicking and I wonder if he feels them on his back.  His little sister is already kicking him. 🙂

In general I’ve felt pretty happy and not overly emotional.  No tears or breakdowns… it’s been a pretty mellow pregnancy.  I’m way more tired all the time, but chasing around a crazy toddler will do that.  Even if I wasn’t pregnant I’m sure I would be tired from that.

And with that, one more baby shot from this week!

That would be so fun! But you could totally do it too… I would say the Internet mostly taught me and I am so no expert (I did learned the basics growing up). There are so many tutorials and videos, which I’m always looking at, since I don’t know what any sewing terms mean. You should try the little hoodie if you have a sewing machine… it’s much easier than it looks!

I had issues with a midwife group here in Portland. Crazy, didn’t even get to choose who I would like to see and I wasn’t even able to get individual visits!!! Thankfully our insurance covers a Midwife clinic not far from the Hospital. So far I LOVE it. I’m 34 weeks and ready to meet my first boy (after 3 girls!) As far as cravings go, sweet and salty! Say, the almond M&M’s I picked up for my husband for his birthday 🙁 And soup, maybe it’s the weather, but I have been making soup 2-3 a week now! Mostly to use up all of the awesome veggies I get from “organics to you” I love living out here in the Northwest. I find that eating healthier is so much easier out here with all of the farms and local produce. I didn’t have easy access to any of that before and absolutely love it!

Oooooh I did organics to you for a while, loved it!!! It was like Christmas morning every week opening the box to see what came for me. Glad you found a midwife group! Who is it? I’m not a fan of crossing over the bridge (even with portland seriously being 5 minutes from my house), but I still like to know about good options. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!
