2nd pregnancy: weeks 31-34

by Heather

Time for another bump-date!  There won’t be many of these left – the end is so-so-sooooo near now.  Just 41 more days to go!

The biggest change I’ve noticed these past couple of weeks are my hunger and energy levels.  I’ve been eating like a mad beast!  Especially on my double class days, I am left starving and eat pretty much e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g in sight.  I also notice if I don’t eat something every 2-3 hours I begin to get a bit shaky and need food NOW.

My energy levels have changed from good to gone.  Again, double class days take it out of me and I’m pretty much forced to take a little nap in the afternoon.  Okay, that’s not really too bad. 🙂

I don’t take very long naps, normally just a 15-30 minute ‘chill with my eyes closed on the couch and drift off a bit’ nap.  I’ve actually felt really good after my little cat naps so I think they’ll just have to be a regular thing once Hunter goes down for his nap in the afternoon.

My goal has been to teach all of my classes (which are 7) until my due date, and it’s still my goal, but I know it’ll be tough just based on how tired they make me.  But with that said, I just have 6 more weeks – eekkk – it doesn’t sound like very long when I put it like that.

During the lunges in body pump I’m noticing I get a few more contractions, so this week I started teaching them without the bar.  They go away once I stop doing lunges, so I think it’s just an uncomfortable position is all.  Here’s a look at what I’ve reduced (or not reduced at all!) my weights down to for the tracks:

warm up: 20 lb (no change)

squats: 35-40 lb, depending on how I’m feeling (reduced)

chest: 25 lb (reduced)

back: 25 lb (reduced)

triceps: 20 lb (reduced)

biceps: 20 lb (no change)

lunges: no bar or 2x 10 lb plates used (reduced)

shoulders: 2x 5lb plates (no change) and 20 lb bar (reduced)

So I’ve pretty much reduced all of my weights.  I also almost exclusively do my push ups on my knees.  Sometimes I’ll throw in a random one or two on my toes, but it feels better (but still challenging!) on my knees.  For ab tracks I can somehow still show crunches comfortably, so I’ll normally show the first set, then sit up and coach the rest.  Hovers and planks I can still too, but I take the knee option as well.

I’ve had an increase in contractions this past week and a half.  Also I feel more changes going on downstairs… my body is getting ready a bit sooner this second time around!  I still don’t think she’ll be early, but my body will be reared up and ready to go once it happens.

On Friday we have another midwife appointment, then going forward they’ll be weekly until the end.  Everything was healthy and normal at 32 weeks.  I haven’t been tracking it really well, but I think at my 32 week appointment I was up about 22 pounds.. but I’m sure it will be higher with all my food devouring lately.  Also,  I really liked the midwife we met at our last appointment.  She was super cheery and nice.  I still have 4 more to meet!

This little lady is definitely growing a lot more now… which also explains my insane hunger.  I can tell because her movements are so much more noticeable (whole belly shifts and rolls), and when she’s under my ribs it’s quite uncomfortable.  I can’t lean forward until she moves out of that position.

Here’s my prediction of when she’ll arrive (I’m due Feb 18th): February 17th.  The reasons?  It’s a holiday and a Monday.  Hunter was born on a holiday and a Monday.  It could happen.

Currently… 34 weeks, 2 days

I taught body combat this morning, which I had missed!  Because both Christmas and new years fell on Wednesdays, I hadn’t taught the class in 3 weeks.  I have such a fun energy packed class, it was so good to be back with them!  But now, nap time. 🙂

Do you think she’ll arrive early or late, or be perfectly punctual and on time?  Were you a big napper during the last few weeks of your pregnancy?

You look amazing!! I can’t remember with your first if he came early or not… Since I’m a terrible guesser of when the baby will show up, I will say she will come 1 week early!

Do you track your heart rate at all when teaching/exercising? I know you aren’t a doctor, so I won’t take it as medical advice. I’m just curious if there’s a range you recommend staying in while exercising while pregnant. Thanks!

Hi Katey! I don’t use a heart rate monitor, I just go by how I feel. I make sure I can talk the whole time (kind of a must when I’m teaching) and keep it at a moderate level.
