#7daymindbodyyoga 7 days of yoga, real food and mindfulness exercises

I know Christmas is right around the corner and your mind might not be thinking much past that day. But, as a group fitness instructor one thing that I always think about and look forward to is January 1.

I love the year new. My classes fill up with excitement. Fresh faces show up at the gym, resolutions are set and people are ready to rock their goals! I love it so much!

I welcome newbies and encourage seasoned class goers to make a new friend.

I truly believe we should celebrate the fact that so many people want to make a healthy change at the new year!

But as it goes, often resolutions are a bit too big and can’t be sustained. The best of intentions slip away because they don’t become habits. The habits they wanted to form take too much time or they just can’t fit into their real life.

Have you even been there? Many New Year’s resolutions don’t stick and I believe it’s because we are not setting ourselves up for success.

BUT… now the question, how do we set ourselves up for success?

Lasting habits > short lived intensity

Creating lasting, lifelong habits are key. Consistency trumps intensity! Imagine going all out for 3 weeks, and then quitting because you can’t sustain 60 minute workouts 6 days a week.

I’m going to offer you something radical to start with here.

It’s not a crazy lifestyle overhaul.

But it is doable.

And taking action that you can do day after day, is what matters in the long run.

Could you do 7 minute workouts each day?

That’s it. That’s really all I’m asking you to take on.

Now you may be asking, is that enough?

It’s enough to begin to build the habit of movement. Habit and consistency trumps short term intensity.

Picture this. You get into the habit of moving for 7 minutes a day. That’s 49 minutes a week. That’s 196 minutes after 1 month. That’s 2,352 minutes after a year.

That’s just from moving 7 minutes a day! The beauty of starting small is that you build a habit, you realize how good you feel with movement, and as you get going, maybe you add a little more time on!

You start to realize you can do this. And you love how it makes you feel.
