If it were up to me, my husband would eat the same as I. I love fruits and veggies. I seek out whole grains always and even indulge in sweets (made better for you!).
However, we grew up differently and his taste buds still love processed foods more than mine. I do have to give him props, he almost always tries whatever I make. He even liked the green smoothies I made for us a while back!
I’m trying to reduce the processed foods in our house one step at a time. One thing on my list…. his creamer.
He has been drinking this stuff in his coffee for a very, very long time. I’m a loving wife and pick it up for him (almost always) before he runs out. Well, I think the grocery store has been on my side the past month. They kept not having that flavor in stock. I even checked at another store and they don’t have it. What do I do? Pick up another in hopes that he’ll like it. Once he ran out of that, they still didn’t have his flavor in stock, so I picked up another different flavor (they were down to like 3 choices for this brand). Turns out Cinnabon creamer doesn’t taste good.
This whole time I’d just been using my half and half so it was in the house already.
Then it happened. He started using my half and half for a few days with sugar. The Cinnabon creamer just sat in the fridge and didn’t get used. After a week or so with half and half + sugar, he told me he’d just use half and half going forward.
Cue the grin on my face —-> 🙂
Score one for me thanks to the grocery store!
The list of ingredients is sooooo much shorter, it’s cheaper, much more natural and is easier for me to remember to check since I use it every day in my Hugo single serve coffee bags too.
And yes, that’s not pure white sugar… more on that another day.
It’s a little win for real food, and I’ll take what I can get.
Have you swapped out any processed foods for real foods lately? And what do you put in your coffee beans after grinding it with one of the commercial coffee grinders?
I just use (a lot of) half and half. I actually love it unsweetened now!

yayyyy! Thats a fabulous win!
I use soy creamer in my coffee but I buy the basic, unflavored kind with a short ingredient list. I also used to use stevia but I’ve cut that out more recently 🙂
Also, congrats on the new site!
Nice Lindsay 🙂
I use almond milk in my coffee. I also like the coconut milk creamer!
I’ve never tried the coconut creamer, but I bet it’s suuuuuppeer creamy.
Hey I’m new to blogger. I love your page though. Congrats on your pregnancy!
Thanks AG and welcome!!
My Husband drinks the vanilla coffee creamer like there’s no tomorrow. I think he has more of it in his coffee than coffee. I’m going to make batch of it with the half and half, sugar and vanilla extract and see how that turns out! Way healthier for him!! Great idea!!
Great idea, I bet he’ll like it!
We went through a phase where I had to swap out a lot of the Husband’s processed foods for better for him choices. Obviously, he approved of all of this – I wouldn’t make him eat it if he didn’t want to. Every now and again, he’ll stop at the store to pick up a few of his old favorites, but then they’re a “treat” and not an every day occurrence!
Nice job training your hubs!
i gave up coffee mate a year ago and substitute dark cocoa powder and almond milk now 🙂
Hmmm sounds like a tasty swap!
My husband is addicted to the Coffee-mate liquid creamers and it drives me nuts! I drink my coffee black which I doubt he’d ever go for. Lately he’s made t he switch to Silk or So Delicious creamers depending on where I shop. Guess it’s a little improvement 🙂
Baby steps Leslie, baby steps 🙂
That’s exactly what goes in my coffee, the half and half and evaporated cane juice! I love it! I used to be addicted to the creamers too until I found out how bad it was. I have found some homemade coffee creamers on pinterest that I have really enjoyed: cream, milk, maple syrup and vanilla heated then cooled. Just to name one. Tastes like the bad for you stuff, but really isn’t too bad for you!
Oh I so need to find those homemade creamer recipes, they sound delish!

I was thinking about making some of this creamer again for myself and realized that whole milk and heavy cream mixed together is nothing more than half and half. It might just be easier to mix maple syrup into half and half. Mine did a bit of separating while in the fridge. Maybe this will solve the problem. If you do end up making it I would love to know what you think!
I use almond milk and a teaspoon of real sugar, but soy creamer is really good too. I am trying to drink my green smoothie everyday in addition to my veggies.
Green smoothies are the best, huh?!
that’s a huge win! i actually used to use that processed creamer in college all the time. now just thinking about it makes me cringe after finally reading the ingredient list one day. i just use milk and a little stevia in my coffee now.
Nice swap! I totally used to drink it too, but those days are long gone now 🙂
i use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and sometimes a couple drops of nunaturals vanilla extract! (i love vanilla!)
Vanilla is the best stuff!
yay awesome!! i used to use the creamer stuff all the time!! especially the holiday ones hah i was obsessed. now i just buy regular half and half. i figured thats gotta be better for u since its real dairy…even with a little fat. i love a ton of it too in my coffee 🙂
[…] long while back Jacob swapped out his old creamer love for a healthier alternative – whole milk (or half and half if we have it around) + natural cane sugar. I gave up […]
