Hey hey it’s Friday!

I’m 1)heading to pump it this mornings, then 2)work all day, and then 3)being pumped for the weekend!  It’s going to be a much more mellow weekend compared to last weekend, but still very awesome.

I was so happy with yesterday’s grocery savings excitement!  Guess I’m not the only one who loooooves saving.

Thanks for sharing what you do to save some moola at the grocery store.  Now we’re onto…

How did I miss all of your budgeting posts? I love budgeting and rolling our debt snowball!

Great job on your food budget — I totally agree with you on subbing out with what you already have on hand. I definitely need to clean out my pantry soon and see what gems I have hidden in there.

Simply Life

Great tips! I try to plan meals that use similar ingredients so it helps keep the costs down!

Heather

Those are all great ideas. We just paid off our last credit card this summer and it felt fantastic! (We’ve been working on paying off five credit cards for almost 9 years and finally were able to do it). There are 6 of us in our family (I have 4 sons and my monthly grocery budget is $1020. It seems like a lot, but with 6 people and having to buy diapers it’s really not. One of the things that helped me stick to my budget when we were just starting out was to carry the money in the envelope like you suggested. It really helped me realize that when I ran out of money that it was gone and I couldn’t get more. I also shop at Costco and make an almost weekly trip there for eggs, milk, bread, and cereal. Once a month I buy diapers, wipes, laundry and dish detergent. That’s one of the reasons I have a monthly budget instead of a weekly. It just works out better for the weeks that I have a large Costco trip. Oh, and any money that is saved on any areas of our budget is put into a savings account.

This is great! I always sub ingredients in recipes to try and make use of what I have.

I love it!  Extra money savings tips are always welcomed.

One more way I save money?  Making my own nut butter at home!  All nut/seed butters are expensive (except for peanut butter).  I’ve had a want to pick up a few different varieties, but with the budget I just don’t squeeze it in.

Instead I ended up just making my own combo nut/seed butter at home!

I was almost out of almond butter and had just returned from the store, having forgotten to pick up any PB or AB (2 that I like to keep on hand).  I was also pretty low on my nuts and seeds.

What’s a girl to do?  Combine them into one!

In my mix I’ve got-

peanuts

almonds

cashews

pumpkin seeds

sunflower seeds

All wrapped up into one jar of deliciousness.

It tastes great on yogurt multi-grain pancakes (tested out many times this week), on bananas, apples, pears, in wraps, on toast and straight up out of the jar.

Plus it’s a great way to use whatever left over nuts/seeds you’ve got left in your pantry.  No extra ingredients to buy which saves you money!

Homemade Multi Nut/Seed Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Combine all the nuts/seeds in a food processor and run on high for 10-12 minutes.  Scrape the sides down every 3-4 minutes.
  2. Once smooth like nut butter, add in the oil and sea salt.  Run for another 2-3 minutes to mix completely.
  3. Store in an airtight container or jar.

Note: all nuts/seeds were raw with the exception on the sunflower seeds… they were roasted and had a little oil on them.

Have you ever made your own nut or seed butter?  What’s your favorite combo to make or one you want to see?

I love making my own nut butters! My favorite I’ve made so far is a pumpkin spice almond butter, but I do need to try your coconut one that you posted a couple of weeks ago. Seriously addicted to PB & AB. Happy Friday!

This reminds me of that Nuttzo nut butter — it is just a big mix of nuts and tastes really good. Nice job!

I would of never thought to mix nuts/ seeds together. I’ve made my own AB before… it is SO much cheaper. I just bought a jar of it this week and it was my first time ever actually buying it.

Isn’t it such a treat getting a new jar of AB?
