my pregnancy: week 21

by Heather

I have a theory as to why the weeks seems to be going by so quickly lately. First, I feel good and have had a relatively easy pregnancy, making me not wish the time away which then would make it feel like it was dragging on. Secondly, once Monday rolls around the work weeks seems to be so busy that there just isn’t enough time in the day to get to everything I want.

Put those two together and say Bon voyage to each week!

I guess the faster the weeks go by the faster we get to meet our little guy right? Not that I’m wishing they went any faster.

Moving on…

How’s baby growing?

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 ½ inches long. You may soon feel like she’s practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby’s eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you’re having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well. — from babycenter

From last week’s cantaloupe, to this weeks banana, looks like we’re doing length this week, not overall size all curled up. These fruit comparisons are funny, but don’t always make sense.

I’m definitely feeling more martial arts in my belly these days. I’ve noticed that I feel them more throughout the day if I workout in the morning, and on the evenings I teach I feel them a ton before/in bed. Maybe this little guy’s gunna like working out like me. 🙂

How do I feel

Other than time zooming, really good. I am happy to report another great week of no emotional breakdowns. Nobody wants or needs that. 😉

What I have started to notice are a couple more pregnancy aches/annoyances. For the past few weeks (I think I mentioned it first during week 18) I’ve been having this odd feeling of nerves moving or rolling over my left hip bone. I mentioned it at my 20 week appointment and our midwife just told me it was probably just ligaments moving as things begin to loosen up.

It still continues and the time I feel it the most is during planks/push ups on my feet, so I’ve began modifying those and doing them on my knees more often.

A new addition? A slight and constant dull throb right under my left hip bone. I’m sure it has something to do with the weird nerve thing, but man is it annoying. Last Friday night it was going on all evening. I worked on gently stretching to see if that would help, but really the only time I’d get a little relief was when I’d apply pressure onto it. It then happened the next day again but wasn’t for as long.

I’m sure this is just the beginning or pregnancy aches, and I bet when I hit 31 weeks and look back at this I’ll laugh at myself and call myself a wuss for thinking that was anything.

A non ache new addition is getting flushed in my face. There are times throughout the day that I just get really hot, but only in my face and it turns read. I then sweat a little too… not cool. I’ve never ever ever had a problem with being too warm (my heater is on all-day-long under my desk at work), so I can only guess this is what hot flashes will be like later on in my old lady life.

What I’m eating

You’ve seen a few of my eats from this week including double custard banana oats, apple spice protein bars and also cereal as a snack. In addition I’ve been munching on an entire cucumber every day with my lunch (can’t get enough!), handfuls of walnuts, lots of fruit, lots of eggs with spinach + tomato and beef/chicken for dinner.

Dinners haven’t been too exciting, but that’s okay.

Oh and along with lots of fruit, I usually eat 1-2 bananas a day. I’ve noticed lately that I get a bit of heart burn in the afternoon/evening after I eat a banana. Is that a normal food to give you heartburn? Is there really anything ‘normal’ during pregnancy? 🙂

How I’m moving

Things were a little different this week… I threw in an extra body pump class over the weekend and even got a treadmill run in! I’m still loving running pregnant.

Other differences… two rest days in a row? At least, I think I had 2, I really can’t remember doing any exercise, not even walking the dog.

Saturday – 60 minute body pump class
Sunday – rest day
Monday – rest day
Tuesday – 30 minute (3 mile) treadmill run
Wednesday – 60 minute full body strength training class + taught 60 minute body pump class
Thursday – will teach 60 minute cycle class
Friday – will go to 60 minute full body strength training class

Like I mentioned above, those planks and push ups are really annoying my hip bone area. I try and avoid them on my feet and go to my knees when I feel it happening.

You are doing great! I love the example you set (and hopefully I set too) that you can still be active during pregnancy! You look adorable. Love. Oh aches and pains! I think you deserve a prenatal massage 🙂
