Let’s invite our children to become food explorers! Dani Lebovitz, RDN, is my expert on the podcast today. She shares how to teach kids to use their 5 senses when trying new or familiar foods, how to incorporate STEAM activities into the kitchen, along with explaining why all of this matters. I left this conversation inspired to think about the flavors of food and teach my kids how to talk about them – I know you’ll learn so much and feel the same!

Food explorers
I’m excited to introduce you to Dani, the mama behind Kid Food Explorers, today. Dani Lebovitz is a registered dietitian nutritionist specializing in experience-based education for children and their families. She is the children’s book author of “Where Do Bananas Come From? A Book of Fruits” and “Where Does Broccoli Come From? A Book of Vegetables,” a colorful whole foods guidebook series that invites taste buds on adventures in discovery of new foods.
Almost any conversation around kids and food includes talk about picky eating, so of course we chatted about that as well. If you want a full episode on navigating picky eating check out episode #132 from last week.
Dani offered up practical ways to let kids explore foods, pressure free, that will leave you feeling like “I can do this”!
Recipes to make with kids
At the beginning of the episode I shared about a few how-to recipes. The how to make oat flour is coming! I’ll link it up when it’s live. Here are the other two how-tos that would be super fun to make with your kids. Get them in the kitchen cooking and exploring foods!
