I wish I could say I felt better today, but this dang cold is still lingering.
Sunday was definitely the worse day of my mini-sickness. Monday I mainly felt groggy all morning from the alkaseltzer, but then I got a major sore/scratchy throat during the afternoon.
This morning all I have remaining is a sore throat. I had planned to run this morning because I really want to and haven’t in a while, but I figured I need to be able to breathe easily.
Still, I feel pretty lucky that my sickness isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Jacob was out for a full week from work and still has a cough. That’s almost 2 weeks of a nasty cold! I haven’t missed a day and don’t plan to.
Want to know my secret? All the fruits + veggies + whole grains + good fats I eat and regular exercise. All things good for your health that pump up your immune system.
I think part of the reason why he’s been wanting the fruit smoothies is to toughen up his immune system like me. I’m always telling him that’s what keeps me healthy, so maybe it’s beginning to stick. That and they’re super tasty smoothies.
I’m handing it over the my aunt Arlene today who’s sharing another Northwest hike with us. Check out the hikes page to see everywhere she has gone. The list just keeps growing!
Hike: Lord Hill (WA)
By Arlene
We almost talked ourselves out of hiking. The weather was not great; the places we wanted to go were too far away for the time we had; and we wanted more of an adventure than the hikes close to Seattle had to offer.
On a tip from Daniel and Natalie who took Millie (their dog) on her first hike to Lord Hill near Snohomish, Norge and I decided to give this “backyard” hike a try. Lord Hill Regional Park (named after the original homesteader Mitchell Lord) is just a few miles outside the town of Snohomish and is the backyard for many residents of the area.
What a great backyard! It is a semi-wilderness, and the well maintained trails are used by horses, mountain bikers, trail runners, dog walkers, and hikers. We detoured off the main trail early and hiked over to the Beaver Lake.
The hiking trail was full of spring growth. We spotted Miner’s Lettuce, Bleeding Hearts, Devil’s Club, Fringe Cup, False Lily of the Valley, and Vanilla Leaf (or Sweet after Death).
We even spotted a morel on the side of the trail and thanked all the previous hikers (and dogs) for leaving it there for our viewing.
We returned to the main Pipeline trail and made a loop back to the parking lot. There is a lot more of the area to explore (the river, an old quarry, and another lake). Not bad for a backyard hike.
