2nd pregnancy: weeks 35-37

by Heather

Hello and happy Friday!

With just a few more weeks to go in this pregnancy, I thought it was about time for another update.  Here’s what’s new and happening with the baby bump these days.  First pregnancy on the left, second pregnancy on the right, for comparisons.

Food

My need for sweets continues.  It’s a serious need you guys.  Anything chocolate or dessert like I devour.  The latest baking happened on Wednesday, because Hunter asked to bake.  That was an easy yes. 🙂

We made a batch of these sweet potato brownie muffins, both in muffin pans and donut pans.  I’d recommend muffin pans for the recipe.  While the batter was the same, they just didn’t taste as good in the donut pans.  Not that I had any trouble eating them in donut form…

Thankfully I’ve been loving vegetables a lot lately too.  Lots of broccoli, sweet potato and kale has been consumed.  Cucumber too.  I’ve been munching on it while cooking or working on things in the kitchen.

Sleep

Sleep has been a little rough.  I have a tough time falling asleep early and wake up a bunch throughout the night to pee or just try to get more comfortable.  I’ve been feeling much warmer lately, so I think that might be part of being uncomfortable in bed.  I’m weird and need to sleep under some kind of blanket, but feel so warm sometimes, so it’s a tough balance.

I’m catching up on my sleep a bit with naps throughout the week.  Although I just realized I haven’t taken any naps this week, which probably explains why I’m more tired.

Exercise

Like I mentioned in my food & fitness post on Monday, I’m working on getting one class covered a week.  I actually only have 2 more weeks of classes left to teach, crazy!  My workouts consist of body pump (3x), body combat, yoga (2x) and an additional class strength class.  I’m stopping body combat 1 week early, which means I just have one more to teach. It is so fun, but my body just hurts too much after it.  The rest though I’m going to continue to the end!

My main modification is not really using much weight or any weights for squats and lunges, depending on the class.  I still feel like I’m working hard, just making it more manageable so I’m not totally dead.  Also, I’m thinking I’ll probably reduce my chest and back weight down a bit more starting next week in body pump.  The moves aren’t physically too hard with the weight I’m using, I’m just getting more out of breath while I lift and talk at the same time.

Check up

Last Friday we had our 36 week check up.  The midwife couldn’t feel if she was for sure head down so we ended up getting a quick ultrasound.  And she is in fact head down!  Quite low I guess.  With the ultrasound we got to see that she was also posterior, which means our spines are facing each other.  Anterior is ideal so I’ve been spending lots of time on my hands and knees (hoping she will turn around) this week playing with Hunter and cleaning the floor.  Hunter loved to copy me while we cleaned. 🙂  And the floors have never looked so good!

Total weight gain so far is just around 30 pounds.  Comparing this pregnancy to my first, I’ve had a little less weight gain – probably due to the fact that I’m even more active this time around.  However, I also started out at a lower number with my first, so I think I’ll end up around the weight by the end.  I had more emotions about seeing my body change when I was pregnant with Hunter.  This time I’m much more relaxed about it.  I know my body will grow to where it needs to, then once I deliver, I’ll slowly shrink back down.  I’m ready for it!

Comparing the picture above, I’m definitely carrying lower.  It could also be that she’s already dropped down low.  I’m so curious to see what size she ends up being.  My belly always measures 1-2 cm behind (which it did with Hunter too), but then Hunter ended up weighing an average size at 7 pounds, 12 ounces being 3 days late.  I feel like she’ll be smaller but who knows!

I’m loving my weekly massages and chiropractic adjustments.  I’ve got one planned for tonight and cannot wait!

Now that I’m 2.5 weeks from my due date, I’m starting to think about packing a hospital bag.  Good idea right?  Other than my phone charger, cliff shot blocks, cozy socks, some comfy clothes (a few different tops I remember came in handy) and a baby outfit + blanket, I’m having a hard time remembering things I actually used.  Any must-haves that I’m not thinking about?

Happy weekend and super happy superbowl weekend!  We’re in Washington, so of course we’ll be rooting for the Seahawks. 🙂  If you’re watching the game, who are you cheering for?

It’s so funny how our bodies gain differently and babies grow at their own rate. I can’t wait to see what size this little one will be!

Depends are nice for the heavy bleeding in the first couple of days…much comfier and more convenient than underwear and pads, in my opinion.

I’m rooting for the Broncos! 🙂 I’m from Utah and my family has always been Denver fans.

I’m in Washington also (Gig Harbor) so HAWKS all the way. I remember bringing an extra pillow and it was a God send. I think I actually threw it away after because it kind of freaked me out bringing it home from the hospital so I might just a cheaper one specifically this time (I’m 34 weeks pg). We’re having complete opposite pregnancies. My first I only gained about 30lbs and had zero body issues. This time I’m much more limited in my fitness activites and have gained about 45lbs already. Not surprisingly having a ton of issues! I’m glad things are going so great for you!

Hi Kristen!

Thanks for commenting 🙂 It’s funny how different even our own pregnancies can be from one to the next. Hoping things go well for you during this last month and a half. And hooray for our team winning yesterday!
