Maple Dijon Dressing (Easy 4-Ingredient Recipe)

I make a version of this maple dijon dressing almost every week.

It started as the dressing for my harvest cobb salad, but once I realized how good it was on its own, I started keeping a jar of it in the fridge at all times.

It’s sweet from the maple syrup, tangy from the Dijon and lemon juice, and comes together in one bowl with a whisk.

No blender, no fancy equipment, no store-bought dressings with ingredients I can’t pronounce.

Just simple, wholesome ingredients you probably already have on hand!

Simple ingredients you’ll need

Scroll down to view the recipe card below for the full ingredients list, nutrition facts, and step-by-step instructions

  • Maple syrup – Use real, pure maple syrup for that deep, natural sweetness.
  • Dijon mustard – Brings the tang that balances out the sweetness of the maple syrup.
  • Lemon juice – Adds brightness and a little acidity to balance the flavors.
  • Extra virgin olive oil – Gives the dressing richness and helps it all come together.
  • Sea salt and black pepper

How to make maple dijon dressing

  1. In a small bowl or mason jar, combine the maple syrup, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and olive oil.
  2. Whisk everything together until smooth. If using a mason jar, secure the tight-fitting lid and shake instead.
  3. Add sea salt and black pepper to taste, then whisk or shake once more.
  4. Drizzle over your favorite salad right away, or store in the fridge until ready to use.

Recipe tip

  • Make a big batch. This recipe doubles or triples easily, so make a big batch on Sunday and keep it on hand all week.
  • Store it right. A mason jar with a tight-fitting lid is my favorite way to store homemade dressing. Easy to shake before using, no risk of spills.
  • Let it come to room temperature. If the dressing has been in the fridge, let it sit out for a few minutes and give it a good shake before serving. The olive oil can firm up when cold.

Serving suggestions

  • Drizzle over leafy greens for a simple side salad.
  • Toss with an apple salad or apple slaw for extra fall flavor.
  • Use it as a dipping sauce for roasted veggies, or spoon it over roast chicken.
  • Try it on kale salads or grain bowls for an easy weeknight lunch.

Meal prep & storage

This maple mustard dressing keeps beautifully, which makes it a great one to make ahead.

Store it in a mason jar or other airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

The oil may separate or firm up slightly when chilled, so just give it a good shake before each use.

Substitutions, optional variations & dietary adjustments

Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this simple dressing recipe.

If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!

Swap the acid – Apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar both work in place of lemon juice for a slightly different tang.

Try a different mustard – Whole grain or stone ground mustard adds nice texture if you don’t have regular Dijon mustard on hand.

Make it a honey mustard – Swap the maple syrup for honey if that’s what you have.

Add creaminess – Whisk in a spoonful of Greek yogurt or mayo for a creamier, more indulgent dressing.

Frequently asked questions

How long does maple dijon dressing last in the fridge?

Stored in an airtight container, it stays fresh for about a week. Shake well before each use.

Can I use a different vinegar instead of lemon juice?

Yes. Apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar both work well in place of lemon juice.

Why did my dressing separate?

That’s normal. The olive oil will firm up and separate when chilled. Just let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes and shake or whisk before serving.

Is this dressing gluten-free?

Yes, as written this maple dijon dressing is naturally gluten-free. Just double check your mustard’s label if you have concerns about cross-contamination.
