Easy Dairy Free Green Goddess Salad Dressing Recipe

I first made this dairy free green goddess dressing for a family dinner night.

Instead of putting it on the salad myself, I poured it into a small serving jar and let everyone help themselves.

The kids ended up dipping everything in it—grilled chickenroasted potatoes, even homemade crusty bread.

You know that’s when it’s a winner and has to be made on repeat! I love it for salads, and especially when paired with my green goddess chicken salad.

It’s is one of those recipes that tastes like it came from a restaurant, but you can whip it up in 5 minutes with your blender or food processor!

Why you’ll love this green goddess salad dressing

Completely dairy-free – Traditional green goddess dressing often includes sour cream, mayo, or Greek yogurt for creaminess. While delicious, those ingredients can feel heavy—and they’re off-limits for anyone avoiding dairy. This version uses almond butter and water to achieve that creamy texture without losing the rich mouthfeel.

Loaded with fresh flavor – The combination of cilantro, parsley, basil, and green onions gives it the green goddess dressing taste that’s garden-fresh.

Super versatile – Works as a salad dressing, veggie dip, sandwich spread, or even a sauce for Buddha bowls.

Substitutions, optional variations & dietary adjustments

Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this green goddess dip recipe.

If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!

Fresh cilantro – Not a cilantro fan? Use more parsley plus a few mint leaves, or go half parsley/half basil. A squeeze of lime helps mimic cilantro’s citrusy vibe.

Fresh parsley – Swap in baby spinach or arugula for a mild green base, or add extra cilantro/basil.

Fresh basil – Try mint, dill, or tarragon (use less—these are stronger).

Green onions – Use chives (great raw), the green tops of scallions for low-FODMAP, or a tablespoon of finely minced red onion (soak in water first to mellow).

Garlic clove – Sub garlic-infused olive oil (low-FODMAP), roasted garlic for sweeter notes, or 1/8 tsp garlic powder.

Almond butter – For nut-free, use tahini or sunflower seed butter. Ultra-creamy options: cashew butter, 1/2 avocado, or 3–4 tbsp silken tofu. Not dairy-free? Greek yogurt or a little mayo works too.

Apple cider vinegar – Use rice vinegar, white wine vinegar, or sherry vinegar. No vinegar? Add 1–2 extra tbsp lemon juice plus a tiny pinch of sugar.

Fresh lemon juice – Swap lime juice or a splash of bottled lemon in a pinch. A tsp of ground sumac + vinegar also gives lemony brightness.

Honey – For vegan, use maple syrup or agave. Low-sugar? Omit or add 1/2–1 tsp Dijon for tang without sweetness.
