It’s time for one of my all time favorites.  Okay, well 2 of my favorites.  Breakfast and Oatmeal!  You know they don’t always have to go together.  You can totally eat oatmeal for dinner.

I love Heather’s blog so much – her blog is one of if not the best blog EVER! I am so excited to be doing a guest post for Heather today!!! Smile

One of the things I strive for in my life is Balance: Balance in my life, Balance with myself, and Balance with food. One of the ways I strive for balance with food is to make sure to eat breakfast every morning — it really kick starts my day off right.

What breakfast food do you like to eat every morning?

Me? Oatmeal.

Oatmeal tastes good.

Oatmeal makes me feel good! Oatmeal is the food I go to when I am going to have a busy day ahead of me – it gives me the energy I need to get through that day; it makes my day feel smoother.

Oatmeal is good for you, too! Some of the benefits of oatmeal include the following:

1. Oatmeal is Packed with Fiberboth Insoluble and Soluble fiber.

· Insoluble fiber not only helps keep you regular and relieve constipation, but it also helps balance your blood sugar levels, which makes oatmeal an excellent food for diabetics.

· The soluble fiber found in oatmeal is mainly betaglucan, which helps reduce LDL cholesterol (source)! Soluble fiber also helps reduce blood pressure.

2. Oatmeal is an excellent source of the B-vitamins!

· These are essential for the normal working of the nervous system.

3. Oatmeal is Packed with Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorous, and Thiamine!

· They all help strengthen our teeth, bones, and muscles!

4. Oatmeal is Gluten Free! (If you have problems with gluten, make sure to get uncontaminated oats.)

5. Oatmeal is a rich source of Vitamin E.

· Vitamin E prevents internal blood clotting and also acts as an Antioxidant.

6. Oatmeal is also a rich source of Zinc!

· Zinc is an essential component of many enzymes in the body. It also helps in stabilization and metabolism of nucleic acids and aids in the healing of wounds, body growth, and reproduction.

The many wonders of Oatmeal.

It tastes good. It feels good. It is good.

Period.

Need I say more?

I WANT TO KNOW: What is your favorite Oatmeal topper? For mePEANUT BUTTAH!!! I seem to have a theme going on with my oats: in most of these pictures, I either have Nut Buttah, Nuts, or both on my oatmeal. I really must like my Nut Buttahs! 😉

{Heather here… any nut butter is a must for me… always}

Favorite Oatmeal Topper that isn’t a nut or fruit? Hmmmm, CHOCOLATE!!! 🙂 Vanilla and Cinnamon are really good, too.

{Heather… I’ve been loving shredded coconut… and shredded dark chocolate makes me happy too}

Peanut Butter or Almond Butter? I prefer Peanut Butter over Peanuts, and Almonds over Almond Butter.

{Heather… peanut butter any day Smile }

    When I first started reading Heather’s blogs she mentioned putting peanut butter in her oatmeal, so I tried it. Now I am hooked. I have oatmeal with PB and a little bit of honey almost every morning. Love it!!

      PB in oats is the best! I’m glad you like it Carol 🙂

    I really love overnight oats and I have so much fun coming up with cool combinations, like banana split and raspberry mocha. My favorite toppings are frozen berries, dark chocolate fudgies and crunchy almond buttah!

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

      Those sounds like such yummy and fun combos! Now that it’s heating up I need to start making more overnight oats.

  3. Jess says:

    Peanut butter. Hands down. 🙂

    Awesome guest post 🙂

  4. Ragnhild says:

    Great guest post!! Oatmeal tastes fantastic- especially with nutbutter (almond and cashew being my faves), and berries! And chocolate! And chocolate+tahini 😀

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

      I’m down with chocolate… I’ll have to give tahini a try! I’ve added it to savory oats but not sweet ones.

  5. Lenna says:

    Lovely post Kathleen!! I just love you, because I love oatmeal so much and it is great that someone is saying all those pretty things about my fave meal 🙂
    My fave topper is peanut butter or tahini mixed with carob powder. I also like to add raw cocoa beans on the top of my oats. And a LOT of cinnamon. And plum raisins don´t hurt either 🙂
    I like peanut butter the best!

    1. Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says:

      I’ve never tried Tahini — that sounds delicious!

  6. stephanie says:

    i love reading the benefits of my favourite foods! hurray for oatmeal!! sometimes i actually feel guilty for eating too much of it but then i realize that there are a lot of people (who have high cholesterol) who need to eat more oatmeal but can’t because they hate the taste.

  7. Lauren says:

    My all time favorite oatmeal topping s definitely nut butters. Yum! Now i just need to find a way to have hot oats in the hot summer so it gets all melty!

  8. Mellie says:
