Hike: Twin Falls (WA)

Last weekend I was enchanted by the number of wildflowers popping up in the woods in Minnesota, so during this week’s hike to Twin Falls on the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River I took the opportunity to see what is blooming at home in the Pacific Northwest. The pair of falls are pretty impressive right now in early spring, so I first widened my view (and zoomed out my camera lens) to try to capture the lower falls from a well built look-out high above the river.

On our return trip, however, I slowed down the hiking, turned my view to the ground, and zoomed in my lens to take pictures of the wildflowers visible from the trail. There were pink bleeding hearts, white trilliums, fuchsia salmonberry blossoms, delicate white and pink spring beauties, and shocking yellow violets.

It has been two years since we have hiked at Twin Falls. For a short trek (the drive and the hike), it is action-packed starting with a stroll along the river, a great trail with boardwalks and steps in the steep areas, a few switchbacks to burn off some calories from breakfast, multiple views of the falls, nice old growth trees, and even a few patches of snow off the trail to remind us that we have to wait a few more months for the big mountain-top views. But in the meantime, we can enjoy the early spring in its gushing water and sprouting wildflowers.

Heather, what a beautiful hike. The falls are gorgeous. Makes me so excited for our family trip to telluride this summer 🙂
Beautiful hike! I love waterfalls…
