I debated whether or not I would continue Hunter’s monthly updates past 1 year, and since I feel like a lot has already changed from his 12 month update (and I’m sure will continue to change), I plan to continue on! Our monthly photo shoots, however will not. That doesn’t mean there won’t be any Hunter pictures!
Doesn’t he look so big in this picture?!?!
Last month he was beginning to hit, and I’m happy to report that was short lived. For probably a week we focused on getting down to eye level, grabbing his hand that he hit with, and firmly telling him no hitting. I’m sure hitting will make a return, but we’re prepared for it now!
Hunter is still napping pretty much twice a day. Sometimes 2 nice long naps. He wakes in the morning around 8am (after going to bed around 7:30pm). His first nap happens between 10:30-11am, and usually lasts about 1-1.5 hour. I never worry if it’s short, I’m just thankful he still takes it. He’ll go down for his afternoon nap between 2-3 and it’s almost always at least 2 hours, sometimes even 3. I feel so lucky that we have a great sleeper. And I love when he wakes up happy jumping in his bed.
The biggest change from 12 to 13 months is no longer nursing. It was a pretty smooth transition, with no tears involved. When we were camping in early June, being out of routine, I just forgot in the evenings. Hunter didn’t seem to mind and when we returned home he never asked for it, so we just stopped. Plus I’m sure after 1 week of not nursing my milk would probably be pretty dried up.
I didn’t switch into offering Hunter whole milk once we stopped nursing. I’m not too keen on filling his belly with tons of milk. I’ve tried offering him it, and he hasn’t seemed very interested in it. He gets lots of dairy through yogurt, cheese and milk in his smoothies though, so I have no worries. Plus Hunter is such a great eater, I want him to fill up on nutritious foods, not just liquids.
We’re beginning to have Hunter eat at the table off of a plate now. Like a big boy. 🙂 I actually prefer him using our breakable plates as opposed to his plastic plates. The real ones are much heavier and harder for him to slide around. He’s also been working on mastering using a fork and spoon.
We went swimming again recently (Jacob’s first time swimming with Hunter) and it was the most fun we’ve had in the water. He loved splashing, ‘swimming’ on a noodle and kicking his legs. There’s a fountain downtown at a park we went to a couple times last week and Hunter went crazy there. He was soaked from head to toe loving every minute. I’m trying to keep our time after lunch and before his afternoon nap active, and the fountain will definitely be a fun activity for us to enjoy this summer!
One thing that hasn’t changed from 12 months… still no teeth! Although, I think one is finally making it’s way to the surface. We shall see though!
Jacob and I have been talking about swim lessons. At what age did you have your kids take swim lessons?
Hope your Tuesday treats you well!
Heather

My jaw dropped at how much your kid sleeps!! I know i know every kid is different, but boy what I could do with that amount of time! Mine prefers to hate sleep and we are basically already at 1 nap/day unless he wakes super early. Ah well, next one right??
I’m also shocked no teeth yet!
Your posts are still not turning up in my Feedly 🙁
We took our son for his first swim lessons when he was 7 months old and again this winter when he was 18 months old. He loves it and I think it really did help him with the water and it also showed me things to do with him in the water.
Bummer Erika! Did you try deleting it and readding it? You can always sign up to receive the post by email so you’ll know when new ones are up. I didn’t think about how I could learn stuff to do with him in the water. Thanks for sharing!
He’s such a handsome little man! So cute how much he’s loving the water! Our little guy enjoys it but doesn’t like to get his clothes wet so most times he strips down to his birthday suit. Which, when out in public doesn’t work too well…
We did swim lessons with him last year when he was 1 year. We don’t have a pool nor do we go to anyone’s house all that often that does so I’m not sure it was real worth it for him. I don’t really regret it but just think it was sort of a waste of money. Oh well, we have cute pictures!
Haha too funny, naked baby in public!
He’s absolutely adorable! It seems like he’s growing up SO fast. I’ve got a 10 month old girl and she’s barely even crawling (she does this weird drag herself with her arms and scooch with one knee… its the cutest thing I’ve ever seen lol) and little Hunter has been walking for ages! ahh babies sure do develop at their own pace don’t they 🙂
Babies sure do! Hunter never did a cute scooch with one knee, so enjoy it!
What a cutie! He looks so much like your husband to me.
I say for swim lessons, the earlier the better! I taught swim lessons for several years, and I think getting kids used to the water at an early age is definitely wise.
Ashley, Jacob loved that you said Hunter looks like him 🙂 Thanks for sharing your expertise about starting early!
