Recently I found myself with an evening to myself.  It doesn’t happen too often so after I got the necessities out of the way (litter box cleaning, putting laundry away and a bit of dishes), I settled in for a night.

We have Netflix hooked up through the Xbox 360 so I can instantly stream tons of movies and shows.  Sounds like a sales pitch right?  Nah, I just like it!

Without really knowing what I was going to watch I found Food Matters.  I was intrigued so I started the movie.

Here’s the best way I’ve described it to a friend.  It reminds be of Food Inc., but it’s different. Food Inc. looks more at where your food comes from and how it’s made, and Food Mattes looks more into foods we put into our body and how they effect health.

It was a very interesting movie I highly recommend.  Jacob watched Food Inc. with me and enjoyed it, so I’m thinking he’ll like this one too.  I won’t mind watching it again, especially if I have another popcorn treat to snack on.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Popcorn

I use my simple brown bag popping technique at home.  I’ve never actually popped popcorn on the stove top and this seems to work so well.  So why change it?

Take a brown lunch sack and add 2 tbsp popcorn kernels.

Fold over the top until it’s about half the size, or a bit smaller.  Put in the microwave on the popcorn setting (this is about 2 1/2 minutes on my microwave, every microwave varies) and cook until you hear no more kernels popping for at least 3-4 seconds.

In a small bowl combine the delicious sauce you’ll toss your popcorn in.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Sauce

  • 1.5 tbsp peanut butter
  • 5 dark chocolate chunks (or chips)
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil

Combine all 3 ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and heat together for 1 minutes, or until your chocolate melts.

Toss the sauce with the popcorn.  Top with another 5 chocolate chunks, a sprinkle of shredded unsweetened coconut and a pinch of sea salt.

It’s a bit messy, but finger licking good!

I have everything I need to make popcorn like that but I have yet to do it. Do you add any oil to it, or does it pop up nicely without it?

    1. Get Healthy with Heather says:

No oil needed, just a brown bag!

I’ve never heard of that pop corn method! I love it–quick microwave popcorn but without all the funky ingredients you get in the store bought kind. I haven’t seen the movie Food Matters, but I have the Food Matters Cookbook. 🙂

I really really want to read the book “Food Matters”. I’ve heard a lot of good things about that one and “Food, Inc” but feel like I’ve heard so many people talk about “Inc” that I’d rather see “Matters” first.

I didn’t know it was a book too. Very cool.

Netflix is the best! I haven’t seen Food Matters yet, I’ll definitely have to check it out!

I love chocolate peanut butter sauce … I love that you added coconut oil, great idea!
