Let’s chat about a Traeger pellet grill
A Traeger grill is different than a regular barbeque – it’s an electric wood pellet grill that also can be used as a smoker. It burns wood chips or pellets.
The way that it cooks food in a slower way than a barbeque or an oven leaves you with moist meat with great flavor.
It’s electric and easy to use – simply get your Traeger smoking and then set the Traeger temperature to your desired heat and cook your meat or vegetables!
Asparagus is a great place to start, so if you’re new to cooking with a Traeger, prepare to impress yourself! Once you’ve tried this recipe, go for a main course of traeger grilled salmon!

How to make the perfect summer side dish
- When you’re ready to cook your easy-smoked asparagus turn the Traeger pellet grill on to smoke and leave the lid open for 5 minutes to start the smoke. Close the lid and set the temperature to 350 degrees F. It will take about 15 minutes to get up to the temperature. Make sure you have enough wood pellets to keep it heated at your desired temperature.
- Season the asparagus by drizzling on the oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and pepper. Mix the asparagus with the seasoning with your hands to ensure every stalk is coated.
- Place asparagus on the grill grates in a single layer, and close the lid. Cook for 10 minutes, and flip the asparagus over. Close the lid and cook for another 5-10 minutes (thinner stalks won’t take as long), and then remove this easy side dish from the grill!
- The asparagus will be bright green with bits of browning when it is done. Top with a little lemon zest or parmesan cheese if you’d like.

Can you double this recipe?
Yes! You can cook more asparagus. Simple double or triple the recipe.
If you are cooking a lot of asparagus, you may need to cook in batches, as you’ll want each stalk to touch the grill grate in a single layer to get some nice color and browning on it.
This will ensure any thick asparagus stalks get cooked to perfection!
How to store leftover asparagus
Lemon pepper asparagus is great for meal prep because it’s great reheated, or enjoyed cold too.
Once the asparagus is cooked and cooled, you can store it in an airtight container.
If you are making meal prep meals, simply add into the container with your chicken thighs or favorite prepped protein and other meal prep items.
Reheat in the oven, on the stovetop, in the microwave, on the Traeger, or in the air fryer until warmed through.

Asparagus – Follow this how-to for all your favorite vegetables! Bell peppers, broccoli stalks, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, and cauliflower florets are all great choices for Traeger cooked side dishes.
Avocado oil – Extra virgin olive oil is a delicious and flavorful alternative to avocado oil. You can also use melted refined coconut oil (unrefined coconut oil has more coconut flavor), or melted ghee.
Lemon juice – You can replace the lemon juice with a different citrus juice like orange, grapefruit, or lime. Alternatively, a vinegar-like balsamic vinegar would be a good option to use as well.
Garlic powder – If you do not have garlic powder on hand, increase the onion powder used.
