Iced Protein Coconut Matcha Latte with 13G Protein!
This coconut matcha latte takes a less traditional route than a classic matcha tea preparation, but it’s such a good one!
Instead of only whisking matcha powder with hot water, we’re adding a protein-packed coconut milk mixture that makes this iced latte extra creamy and satisfying.
Similar to my protein iced matcha and pistachio iced matcha, each drink gives you 10+ grams of protein for more staying power.
Protein + energizing matcha caffeine is a great way to start the day!

Why you’ll love this iced coconut matcha latte
Creamy and frothy – The combination of carton coconut milk, vanilla protein powder, and liquid egg whites froths into an ultra creamy matcha latte that feels like something from your favorite tea shops.
High protein – Unlike many iced matcha recipes, this one actually gives you some staying powder thanks to the added protein. It’s a simple way to support a healthy lifestyle while still enjoying a fun drink.
Easy to make at home – No bamboo whisk or fancy matcha tools needed here. A handheld frother quickly blends everything together!
What is matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder made from entire green tea leaves. Because you drink the whole tea leaf rather than steeping and discarding it like herbal tea or regular green tea, matcha has a more concentrated flavor and vibrant, bright green color.
Ceremonial grade matcha powder is typically smoother and less bitter, making it ideal for lattes and iced matcha drinks. You can find matcha online, at regular grocery stores, or at health food stores.

Simple ingredients you’ll need

- Warm water – Helps dissolve the matcha powder smoothly.
- Ceremonial grade matcha powder – Gives the latte its earthy green tea flavor and bright green color.
- Carton coconut milk – Creates a creamy coconut flavor without being too heavy.
- Liquid egg whites – Makes the latte extra frothy while adding protein.
- Vanilla protein powder – Adds sweetness, flavor, and staying power.
- Ice

Pro tips
- Use cold coconut milk for the frothiest texture.
- A handheld milk frother works great if you don’t have a bamboo whisk.
- For a sweeter drink, add a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.
- Use ceremonial grade matcha powder for the smoothest flavor and brightest green color.
- Store your matcha in an airtight container away from light for the freshest taste. Most matcha stays freshest for about 6-12 months once opened.

Substitutions, optional variations & dietary adjustments
Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this coconut milk matcha latte recipe.
If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!
Coconut milk – Almond milk, oat milk, regular milk, or your milk of choice can be used instead, though the coconut flavor will not be there. Full fat coconut milk can be used for a richer drink.
Vanilla protein powder – Any vanilla whey or plant-based protein powder should work well in this matcha latte recipe. If using an unsweetened protein powder, you may want to add a sweetener like maple syrup, coconut sugar, or honey to balance the matcha.
Liquid egg whites – You can leave them out if preferred, though the latte will be less thick and frothy.
Matcha powder – Ceremonial grade gives the smoothest flavor, but culinary grade matcha also works if that’s what you have on hand.

Frequently asked questions
Does this taste like coconut?
Yes, but not overpoweringly so. The creamy coconut milk pairs perfectly with the earthy matcha flavor.
Can I make this hot instead of iced?
Absolutely. Simply warm the coconut milk mixture before frothing and skip the ice.
Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes. Since matcha uses the entire green tea leaf, it naturally contains caffeine and provides a steadier energy boost compared to coffee.
