Lately I’ve been struggling with making healthy food choices. It’s been a few weeks now, pretty much ever since we went camping. I even tried my hardest to prepare healthy snacks to take and meals to eat. And for the most part I did good when we were on the campsite with the foods I brought from home, but when we were out… that’s a whole different story. Maybe it all balanced out? Now how do I balance out all those pies (they were pretty amazing looking, right?!?).
Here’s a look at some foods I prepared for our trip to show you how I worked to make healthier food choices happen. Even if I’m not perfect 100% of the time.
First I picked up the mother load of fruits and veggies. Banana, pear, cucumber, avocado, grapes, lettuce, blueberries, watermelon, red bell pepper and oranges.
Then I made sure to prep it for an easy grab n go snack all cut up and ready to munch. In addition I hard boiled and pre-peeled a bunch of eggs for some easy protein.
Every morning we started with a healthy wholesome breakfast – my homemade whole wheat dry pancake mix for yogurt pancakes. It is always nice to start the day off right and feeling great.
I even made my own healthy chocolate oat cookies to keep me away from Jacob’s chocolate chip cookies. It didn’t work. I just ate both.
Now that we’re back home I’m just having a tough time eating like I normally would. Normal, like 1 month ago when I was eating like a health pro champ (I guess). But just because it’s tough, doesn’t mean I’m going to give in. I’m not looking to detox or anything drastic, but just to make better choices throughout the day. Today I resisted the nutella for peanut butter on my whole wheat toast. One little choice that hopefully keeps me moving towards more of them. Baby steps.
I find that keeping healthier snacks all ready for you when the hunger bug kicks in makes all the difference. And not keeping nutella in the house. That just makes it tough!
Recently I received four flavors of ips to try. ips = intelligent protein snacks. These puffed chips are made of corn, egg whites and natural flavors. They are light and crunchy and have 7 grams of protein in them. Pretty cool for a chip.
I actually loved all four flavors, but if I had to pick an order, here are my favorites: cinnamon sugar, barbeque, aged white cheddar and sea salt + black pepper.
Little bags of chips made portion control easy!
