Healthy 3 Ingredient Banana Brownies Recipe (No Eggs)

Healthy brownies are not only delicious with a rich chocolate flavor – they are so easy to make!

Once your bananas are spotty and brown, give them a quick mash, combine with the other 2 ingredients, and bake into flourless brownies everyone will love.

These brownies are for you if you enjoy banana bread.

Since bananas are the main ingredient, the banana flavor will carry through them and add natural sweetness instead of added sugar!

You can choose the type of nut or seed butter you want to use. This will also add flavor to your brownie, so go with your favorite nut butter option!

I’m partial to peanut butter with my chocolate, so that’s my go to nut butter option.

Almond butter, cashew butter, and sunflower seed butter all work for this healthy brownie recipe!

You’ll get lots of healthy fats thanks to the nut or seed butter you use.

What you need for 3-ingredient brownies

  • Very ripe bananas  – The riper the better! Look for bananas that are heavily speckled or mostly brown. Overripe bananas provide natural sweetness, moisture, and structure since there are no eggs or flour in this recipe.
  • Natural peanut butter – Use a creamy, drippy natural peanut butter made with just peanuts (and salt if preferred). Well-stirred peanut butter blends smoothly into the batter and helps create that rich, fudgy texture. You can also substitute almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter.
  • Cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder gives these 3 ingredient banana brownies their deep chocolate flavor. You can also use raw cacao powder as a 1:1 swap for a slightly richer taste.

How to make vegan brownies

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Line a square 8×8 baking dish was parchment paper.

Step 2: In a large bowl add the overripe bananas and mash well.  You don’t want any pieces of banana left in there.

Step 3: Add the peanut butter and cocoa powder to the mashed banana mixture and mix well – you will have a thick batter.

Step 4: Spread the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and bake brownies in preheated oven for 17-20 minutes, or until the top looks cooked through.

Step 5: Allow this easy brownie recipe to fully cool on a wire rack before cutting into.

NOTE – Instead of mashing the banana, you can blend it up in a food processor or blender for super smooth mashed bananas.

How to store

Store brownies once cooled to room temperature in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

You can freeze this healthy dessert recipe too! Cut into individual squares and add to a freezer bag with parchment paper between each brownie pieces.

Label and date the freezer bag, and keep frozen for up to 6 months.

When you want to eat a banana brownie, remove from the freeze bag, allow to defrost on the counter, and enjoy this perfect treat!

Bananas –  What if you don’t like the taste of bananas? Swap the banana for cooked mashed sweet potato or yams and add 2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup into the mix.

Peanut butter – As mentioned above, any nut or seed butter works in place of peanut butter. If you need to make a nut-free recipe, use sunflower seed butter or tahini. If nuts are okay, try almond butter, cashew butter, walnut butter, or pecan butter.

Cocoa powder – Raw cacao powder will work as a 1:1 replacement to unsweetened cocoa powder.

    There are not many dessert recipes that literally have 3 ingredients – all clean, no sugar, not processed. Perfect for me who loves brownies but doesn’t eat refined sugars

    These didn’t work for me, unfortunately. It didn’t cook all the way through and it didn’t have a sweet enough taste. It reminded me of the texture of banana protein pancakes. Which are fine, but not really brownie-like. Not sure what I did differently, but yeah. It just didn’t work out haha.

    These brownies were terrible I made them and not sweet at all. My bananas should have been sweet as they were really spotted all most completely blackened. In order to eat them and not waste I put low sugar maple syrup on them. They also need another 10 min cooking time.
