Cacao butter – this gives the chocolate smoothness, helps to form our chocolate, and gives it a bite (if you see cocoa butter or cocoa solids it’s the same thing, so feel free to use that!)
Coconut oil – smooths the chocolate out for dipping and gives it a nice sheen
Cocoa powder – gives it the chocolate flavor!
Maple syrup – the touch of sweetness
Sea salt – just a pinch makes the flavors pop
Vanilla extract – subtle sweetness and flavor
Dried figs – our sweet, delicious, and fruity filling!
How to make these wonderful treats
Step 1: You can begin by making your homemade melted chocolate by heating the cacao butter in the microwave for 2-3 minutes on high until fully melted. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler. Stir in the coconut oil, maple syrup, cocoa powder, sea salt, and vanilla extract once the cacao butter is melted.
Step 2: Drop all the dried fig pieces into the melted chocolate. Stir to coat each piece fully. Use a fork to lift a dried fig piece out of the melted chocolate and place it on a parchment paper or wax paper lined baking sheet or cutting board. Repeat with all fig pieces, making sure to have space between each piece. Optional but delicious, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on the top for a nice contrast.
Step 3: Chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes until set! Keep bites in the fridge and enjoy!
