  • Cottage cheese (2%) – Cottage cheese is the secret ingredient here, creating a creamy base and making this an excellent source of protein once blended smooth.
  • Chocolate protein powder – This adds rich chocolate flavor and boosts the high protein content without needing maple syrup or natural sweeteners.
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder – This deepens the chocolate flavor and gives that classic creamy chocolate pudding vibe.

How to make this cottage cheese chocolate pudding recipe

Step 1: Add the cottage cheese, chocolate protein powder, and cocoa powder to a food processor or high-powered blender. Blend until completely smooth, stopping once or twice to scrape down the sides of the blender so everything combines evenly. The whole thing should transform into a thick, creamy pudding with a smooth consistency and rich chocolate flavor.

Step 2: Spoon the pudding into a serving bowl and enjoy immediately, or chill for later.

Note: If you want it slightly thinner, you can add a splash of milk or water and give it a quick stir or additional blend.

Favorite toppings & delicious ways to serve

This creamy chocolate pudding is delicious on its own, but toppings make it extra fun:

  • Fresh fruit like strawberries or raspberries
  • Peanut butter or a drizzle of almond butter
  • Dark chocolate chips or chocolate shavings
  • Chia seeds for added texture
  • Crushed graham crackers for a dessert twist
  • Coconut whipped cream

You can even freeze it briefly for a thicker, chocolate ice cream-like texture.

Substitutions, optional variations & dietary adjustments

Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this healthy dessert recipe.

If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!

Cottage cheese – You can use full-fat cottage cheese for an extra-rich, creamy texture or fat-free cottage cheese if that’s what you have on hand. Just make sure to blend thoroughly so the texture of cottage cheese is completely smooth.

Chocolate protein powder – Any chocolate whey protein powder will work here. If using a plant-based chocolate protein powder, the pudding may be slightly thicker and less sweet, so adjust with a splash of liquid if needed. Vanilla protein powder will work here as well, just increase the amount of cocoa powder added.

Cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder gives classic chocolate pudding flavor, but you can swap in cacao powder for a deeper, more intense chocolate taste.

Sweetener (optional) – If you prefer a sweeter pudding, blend in 1–2 teaspoons of maple syrup, honey, or a few drops of liquid stevia, depending on your preference and dietary needs.
