How to store

For the best texture, enjoy the cottge cheese ice cream 3-4 hours after initially freezing. You can also store it for longer in an airtight container in the freezer.

The ice cream will be pretty hard when initially taken out of the freezer when frozen solid, so leave it on the counter at room temperature for 10-20 minutes before scooping it out.

Letting it come to room temperature will ensure you have a really nice creamy texture!

Different variations to try

There are so many different flavors you can make here!

Try one, all, and definitely make your own amazing combinations starting with the basic ingredients of cottage cheese and honey and then letting your taste buds transform it into a new and delicious healthy treat!

  • Strawberry cheesecake ice cream – Swap fresh strawberries for the raspberries – simply add finely chopped strawberries in and enjoy a different fruity flavor. You could really use any berry here!
  • Chocolate peanut butter – Add in peanut butter and cocoa powder when blending the cottage cheese mixture for a dreamy flavor combo. Stir in chopped chocolate bar, chocolate chips, or diced peanut butter cups.
  • Vanilla wafer – When mixing the cottage cheese, add vanilla extract and vanilla protein powder, and then crush in and add vanilla wafers for a lovely crunch.
  • Chocolate cherry – Add melted chocolate chips into the blended cottage cheese mixture and then stir in fresh diced sweet dark red cherries.
  • Chunky monkey – Stir in chopped bananas and generous spoonfuls of peanut butter after making the base ice cream.
  • Smores – Make a chocolate cottage cheese ice cream by blending in cocoa powder, then add in crushed graham crackers and mini marshmallows.
  • Oreo – Crush oreo and mix it into the base mixture. Swirl in a drizzle of melted chocolate chips for an extra decadent treat.

Substitutions, optional variations & dietary adjustments

Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this high protein treat recipe.

If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!

Full fat cottage cheese – For substitutions, 2% cottage cheese works okay, but it is slightly less creamy. I would not suggest fat-free cottage cheese because it will leave the ice cream more icy than creamy.

Honey – Maple syrup and agave nectar are great alternatives to use here!

Fresh raspberries – You can also use frozen raspberries in place of fresh, or swap in any other berry.

Graham crackers – If you need this recipe to be gluten free, use your favorite gluten free graham cracker. If you don’t have graham crackers available, use any crispy cookie and crush it into small pieces before adding.
