4-Ingredient Avocado & Banana Ice Cream – Dairy-Free!

If you’ve been searching for a healthy dessert that actually satisfies your sweet tooth and feels indulgent (without dairy or refined sugars), this is it. It’s:

  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free
  • Naturally sweetened
  • Packed with healthy fats and fruit

This easy, wholesome treat is one you’ll want to keep in your back pocket all summer long. It’s cool, creamy, and made with nourishing ingredients you can feel good about serving up on repeat.

What I love most? It’s just a few real-food ingredients—fruit, a little milk, and a natural sweetener. That’s it!

My kids love when I pull this out of the freezer on warm afternoons. It’s like a special dessert, but secretly packed with goodness (hello, avocado!).

We’ve played around with a few mix-ins—mini chocolate chips are always a hit—but the classic banana avocado combo is one we keep coming back to.

It’s kind of like soft-serve meets smoothie bowl, and it’s so fun to eat with a spoon!

Why you’ll love this avocado and banana ice cream

Made with real fruit – Ripe bananas and creamy avocado create the silkiest texture—no heavy cream needed.

Naturally sweetened – Honey or pure maple syrup gives just the right touch of sweetness, along with the sweetness from bananas.

Dairy-free & vegan – Perfect for anyone avoiding dairy (or just trying to sneak in some extra healthy fats).

Kid-approved frozen dessert –  My kids love topping theirs with mini chocolate chips.

No fancy equipment – You just need a blender or food processor and a freezer-safe dish – easy peasy!

Pro tips for creamy homemade banana ice cream

  • Use ripe fruit: Ripe bananas and ripe avocados will blend smoother and add the perfect sweetness.
  • Add-ins: Swirl in peanut butter, mix in chopped nuts, or sprinkle on cacao nibs for extra fun.
  • Want it scoopable faster? Freeze in individual silicone molds or ice cube trays and blend again when ready to serve.

More flavor ideas

When I look at the color of this dairy-free ice cream, my mind instantly goes to mint chocolate chip nice cream!

It’s already green, so here’s how to flavor it with mint & chocolate chips:

When blending, add a handful of fresh mint leaves or a few drops of mint extract along with the other ingredients. Once it’s smooth, stir in mini chocolate chips before freezing for that classic mint-chip crunch.

So fun and refreshing!

You can also get creative with other mix-ins:

  • Peanut butter swirled in after blending
  • A spoonful of cocoa powder for a chocolate banana twist
  • A splash of vanilla extract for a softer flavor
  • Sprinkle in coconut flakes for a tropical vibe
  • Or confetti sprinkles always bring joy to the kids!

This recipe is super flexible, and you can easily adjust the flavors based on what your crew loves!
