Greek Chicken Meatballs with Tzatziki and Veggie Bowls
Bowls are my kind of meal. You get to pile on all kinds of flavorful components, go heavy on the veggies and there is always a sauce involved.
Sauces make a bowl, always.
To build our greek chicken meatball bowls we start by getting the ground chicken mixed with lots of herbs, seasonings, garlic, and red onion.
While the meatballs bake, quickly mix up the cucumber yogurt sauce – AKA – tzatziki.
Chop your favorite veggies – cucumber and tomatoes go perfect here!
And have your base ready go to – I opted for brown rice, but orzo would be lovely, along with a size of pita bread.
When all your components are ready to go, let everyone build their favorite bowl!
And if you’re serving to kids that are not as excited about bowls and everything touching, simply give them a plate and let them enjoy the foods separately.
Whatever works!
Cute and crunchy cucumbers
If you’re looking for the cutest cucumber you ever saw, Pure Flavor has you covered! Their Uno BitesTM Nano Cucumbers brought our bowls to life!
Not only were they a star in our tzatziki sauce, but they also brought the best crunch into the greek veggie bowls.
Every time my kids saw them they thought they were pickles, but once they took a bite they kept reaching for more and more. These little cucumbers are addictive!
How to prep your greek chicken meatballs in advance
Meatballs are one of my favorite foods to meal prep.
They reheat perfectly and can be prepped ahead in many different ways.
You can:
- Mix the greek chicken meatball mixture up and have it prepped and ready in a bowl, ready to roll into meatballs.
- Fully roll the mixture into meatballs waiting to be baked.
- Bake the meatballs ahead and store them in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- Make and bake your meatballs ahead, then cool and freeze and store in the freezer for up to 6 months. Reheat to enjoy!

Substitutions
Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this greek chicken meatballs recipe.
If you try something different out, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!
Ground chicken – Substitute any ground meat in here. Since 2 pounds are used, you could, for example, use 1 pound of ground chicken with 1 pound of ground pork. Mix and match!
Red onion – Any onion variety will work here. For a more mild flavor try green onion.
Herbs – The recipe calls for mint and parsley, but if you only have cilantro or basil, feel free to use those instead. You can also use dried herbs if fresh aren’t available.
Greek yogurt – Plain (non-greek) yogurt will work. Also using plain non-dairy yogurt works too!
Lemon juice – Try lime juice or apple cider vinegar as a substitute.
Brown rice – White rice, quinoa, farro, or any favorite grain works as the base for these bowls. Another option, up the veggies and use cauliflower rice instead!
