For this homemade PB, all you need are 3 ingredients – dry roasted peanuts, coconut oil, and sea salt. I’ll show you how to make healthy peanut butter in your food processor and just how easy it is. I’ve included a how-to video as well because I know how helpful visuals are with this one!
How to make healthy peanut butter
I started making PB and many other kinds of nut butter over a decade ago. Once I began, I couldn’t stop because it is so easy and satisfying!
Plus when you make your own peanut butter at home, you know everything that goes into it.
Many jars of peanut butter that you buy off the grocery store shelves are filled with lots of ingredients, added sugars, and hydrogenated oils. No thank you.
Homemade peanut butter can be made with simply ground peanuts. Easy as that.
However, added a touch of coconut oil and sea salt makes your peanut butter smooth, creamy and delicious.
Let me show you how easy it is to make!
Ingredients needed for homemade peanut butter
How to make PB in the food processor
- Add the peanuts to a food processor and turn it on allowing the peanuts to break down. Scrape down the sides as needed.
- Peanuts don’t take very long when making nut butter, maybe about 5 minutes max. Once the peanuts begin to turn into a thick paste, add in the coconut oil and sea salt. Turn the food processor back on and run it until the PB is creamy.
What to do with your tasty homemade PB
There are so many uses for it! First, simply grab a spoon and get after it.
You can also:
- Dip apple slices in it
- Use it in a sandwich or wrap
- Top your pancakes with it
- Mix it with yogurt and cocoa powder for a tasty snack
- Add it into your smoothies
- Make PB fat bombs

Homemade PB is the jam. I can’t get enough!
Same here Heather, they never last very long!
Coconut oil is a fab idea. I love the combo of peanut butter and coconut in my oatmeal and on toast- so I’m definitely giving you the thumbs up on this one!
I love the addition of the coconut oil….so yum!
i have been wanting to try popped amaranth for a while 🙂 it looks so tasty! And homemade PB is the best! I’ll have to add coconut oil next time I do it!
Yeah the coconut oil keeps is so creamy, even when kept in the fridge.
That workout looks awesome!
It sure was a great one!
I want to try the puffed amaranth method soo badly, but I’m worried I’ll mess it up and feel defeated. Lame excuse. Shall try it this weekend 🙂
Every time I make it I burn the first couple batches but then I get the hang of it again. Give it a try girl!
Oooh, I am loving the addition of coconut oil to make your pb! That looks excellent!
Yay for Friday! Have a great weekend, Heather!
I hope you get out early today & get in a run!! That peanut butter looks absolutely perfect- so creamy! Ah! I need to make some homemade nut butter
I did get to run, yay!
Looks great, Heather! Perfect for on top of morning oats!
Your PB looks soooo good! I’m going to have to break down and try my hand at the homemade stuff. Does it need to be refrigerated?
I keep it refrigerated just out of habit, but you don’t have to if it’s used within a week or two. It would be a lot more liquidy at room temperature and when I keep it chilled it’s perfectly spreadable.
Is the coconut flavor noticeable? I’ve never tried it before 🙂
Nope just delicoius PB flavor.
Ohmygosh!!! Your Peanut Butter is calling my name! 😉
xoxo
