This smoked salmon pinwheels recipe is one of those easy recipes that are perfect for when you’re looking for easy appetizer ideas. They also make a great quick snack or lunchbox addition. A big hit all around with kids and adults, and couldn’t be easier! 6 simple ingredients transform into flavorful, healthy pinwheels!

Smoked Salmon Pinwheels Recipe
I love make-ahead appetizers! Anytime I can get a little ahead in the kitchen, I am in!
Whether it’s for a party, a picnic, or a lunchbox, you can make these smoked salmon tortilla rolls ahead of time, then place pinwheels in your storage container until you’re ready to enjoy them.
The smoked salmon mixes with a cream cheese filling of feta and dried cranberries. The sweet and salty combo is fantastic!

How far in advance can these be made?
You can easily prepare these rolls up to 3 days in advance. Any longer you risk the tortilla getting soft.
If you want to prep them a bit longer in advance, here’s what to do:
Prepare the cream cheese mixture, mixing all that goodness together, and add it to a container to store in the fridge.
Then, when it’s the day you’d like to have them ready, add a thin layer to your tortillas, roll them into a pinwheel shape, and slice with a sharp knife. They are good to go!

Simple ingredients for salmon rolls
- cream cheese
- feta cheese crumbles
- smoked salmon
- green onion
- dried cranberries
- black pepper
- microgreens or sprouts
- whole wheat tortillas

Substitutions
Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this smoked salmon pinwheel recipe.
If you try something different, please leave a comment below letting us all know how it turned out!
Smoked salmon – In place of the smoked salmon, cook a fresh salmon filet. Season it with lemon juice, garlic powder, and olive oil, and cook until the thick section of the salmon is fully cooked. Break into pieces and add into the cream cheese mixture as you would the smoked salmon. Another alternative would be smoked trout or smoked sardines.
Cream cheese – Use dairy-free cream cheese if you need this recipe to be dairy-free. You can also substitute ricotta cheese for the cream cheese.
Feta cheese – Cojita cheese or goat cheese are great alternatives here.
Dried cranberries – Dried cherries, dried blueberries, or dried currants are all good alternatives. In a pinch, raisins will work as well!
Whole wheat tortillas – Use any large tortilla that will roll well without ripping here. You can use flour, grain-free, or low-carb tortillas.
