Blackberry Smoothie with Almond Milk

Easy Blackberry Smoothie with Almond Milk and Cauliflower

The almond flavor is terrific in this smoothie thanks to the touch of almond extract and almond butter. If the almond extract isn’t your favorite, simply substitute it with vanilla extract.

The beautiful thing about this recipe is that you can customize it based on what you have on hand! Use fresh fruit or frozen fruit, and mix up the types of berries.

Don’t have almond butter around? Substitute in peanut butter or your favorite nut/seed butter. The flavor combinations are endless!

Blackberry almond smoothie with sneaky veggies

Blackberry almond smoothie with sneaky veggies

You may notice a theme around here with smoothies. Lots of them are green because I love adding veggies to my smoothies!

While you could definitely make this a blackberry-green smoothie, we’re opting for frozen cauliflower rice to keep the pretty purple color.

It’s such an easy addition to the smoothie because it’s basically flavorless. Since we aren’t adding ice to the smoothie, the frozen cauliflower rice becomes our ice! It works great in my peach banana smoothie too!

Veggies are packed with vitamins and minerals, fiber-rich, and such an important part of the diet.

I love adding them into smoothies as a super easy way to bump up the veggies that my kids and myself start our day with.

This is a super kid-friendly, veggie-filled smoothie!

Substitutions

Below you’ll find a list of substitutions that will work well in this vegan blackberry smoothie recipe.

If you try something different, please leave a comment below to let us all know how it turned out!

Almond milk – Swap in your favorite plant-based milk option for almond milk. Carton coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk, and hemp milk are all great options.  You could also swap in dairy-free yogurt or greek yogurt.

Blackberries – Frozen blackberries will work in place of fresh.  If you opt to use frozen, swap the frozen banana for a few fresh banana chunks.  Other fresh berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries will work great too!

Frozen banana – Fresh ripe banana will work.  If the banana is not your favorite, try frozen peaches, mango, or pineapple instead.

Frozen cauliflower rice – Frozen cauliflower florets will work too!  For a green vegetable substitute, try spinach or baby kale.

Almond butter – Peanut butter, cashew butter, and sunflower seed butter are all good options!

Chia seeds – Hemp hearts or flax seeds are good alternatives.

Almond extract – Try vanilla extra for a different flavor profile.

Collagen peptides – Collagen peptides are optional in this recipe.  But if you’d like to add even more protein to this smoothie, use your favorite natural or vanilla protein powder.
